Best Hunting Quotes Ever

This whole thread reminds me of the Pat McManus story he wrote about his older cousin who was always trying to impress him with his woods knowledge -- especially discovering fresh deer "sign" (droppings).

Any time Pat pointed "sign" that he'd discovered, his cousin would holler dismissively, "Well, you can't EAT 'sign!'"

Until the day Pat brought along a pocket full of chocolate-covered raisins and deposited them in the middle of a trail, and then called his cousin over to see the "sign" he'd found.

"You can't EAT 'sign!'" And then Pat did. :D

Treat every hunter as if they were loaded. (bumper sticker)

They are hard to shoot when sitting in front of the TV. (not sure)

Yes I hunt from my house. That's where the deer are. (ME)

I've always preferred the classic, "The (insert any known cartridge, guage, caliber, or bore) is too (heavy, light, fast, or slow) for (woodchucks, wildabeast, squirrels, saurapods, mastodons, mice, yheti, yak, mallards, black ducks, paramecium, ptarmagin, red stag, blue whales, narwals, the Price of Wales, whitetail deer, kthulu, 'gators, grouse, gnats, goose, groundhog, goats, sheep, hogs, bear, cows, crab lice (careful of powder burns!), or any other creature that is, was, or might be, killed by human beings) -- you should use (insert whatever I happen to have with me)!"

Me to Dad after hearing shots: What did you get.

All time favorite..."was that you shooting back here??" also is followed by the "didya get it?" as you stand there shaking your head in amazement that you missed the one that was 20 feet from ya. Then there was the time me and a few hunting buudys came upon some guys in tree stands and they said" did you all hear that barrage of gun fire over there??" we stood there looking at each other snickering, "we didnt hear a thing"... the 4 of us unloaded twice i think and still didnt hit a dang thing....worst day ever.

Run for your life mate!

Shouted loudly, very shortly after encountering a herd of po'ed cow elephant in thick brush several years ago.:)

"If it's quack'n, it's gonna get a wack'n"

"Aim for the spots."

"It's raining feathers."

"Guns up! Geese down!"

(After shooting a doe at 20ft with a .50MZ) "Guess you like smoked hams."

(From a Montana Guide to a foul mouthed, disrespectful, ungreatful, POS client on a Muley hunt with a huge 7x7 buck at 70 yards,..which he missed, TWICE, before connecting at 140 yards) "Wipe the 'bacca off your stupid craw and shoot that buck 'fore I wallop the stupid outta ya."

My brother and I to a couple elk guides in Idaho, "you just put an elk with horns in front of us and tell us when to stop shooting we will take care of the rest".

Me to the above guide, "can I shoot off this horse?"
Guide to me, " once".

"I know I hit that coyote" me, ''well since thats a 375 H n H and there ain't no coyote parts laying here I would say you hit everything but the F***ing coyote. Dad.

My dad, after seeing a pickup bed piled to the top with dead doves:

"That's what I'd call a good day. But if the game warden comes, I don't know any of you. Including you! (points to me)

"Stop pumpin shells outa that gun and shoot the damn thing." My Dad to my younger brother with a nice buck 50 yards away.

"The hunter's horn sounds early for some, later for others. For some unfortunates, posioned by city sidewalks and sentenced to a cement jungle more horrifying than anything in Tanganyika, the horn of the hunter never winds at all. But deep in the guts of most men is buried the the involuntary response to the hunter's horn, a prickle of the neck hairs, an acceleration of the pulse, an atavistic memory of his fathers, who killed first with stone, and then with spear, and then with bow, and then with gun, and finally with formulae."

I like, reminds me of my youth!

When I was a kid my grandpa ran a bunch of cows, lost quite a few calves over the years to stray dogs, one afternnoon I saw a couple chasing the cows, grabbed the rifle and headed out across the field. Cut down on them, just knew I hit one of them, but couldn't find any hair or blood where I shot. When I got back to to the house grandpa was there waiting. Him: "Did ya get'em? Me: Well, I KNOW I hit one, but I couldn't find any sign. Him: Well of course you hit one, no sign is a sure sign you got'em good! He just grinned at me and walked off.
