Best Inexpensive 22

Okay, a stock Ruger 10/22 most likely won't out shoot a stock 60. However, at least you have options to upgrade as you would like.

Pawnshop 10/22: $125
Christmas special Stock and heavy barrel: $150
Used BSA scope and rings: $50
Cheap Remington bulk ammo: $13/550

That is the combination I used to build my first "target" 10/22 and it routinely turns in smaller than 1/4" groups at 25 yards, and smaller than .5" groups at 50. A 1 MOA .22 for Just over 300 bucks is cheap by my book.

I understand what you guys are saying about putting more than the cost of the gun into replacement parts, but you don't have to do that. The point is that the 10/22 gives you something you can upgrade easily over the years, where mods for the 60 are more limited and require a bit more experience to pull off.

Also, keep in mind that the title of the thread is "best," not "most accurate" inexpensive .22, and if you value ready availability of accessories, magazines, and easy-to-do-it-yourself gunsmithing options, I woud say the 10/22 is your best bet.

not sure if it still made , have a Marlin 700 ( big 5 special ) that I bought 20 years ago or so. It still shoots circles around my 10/22 , but not around my Savage GVXP ( now with a Mueller APV as the included scope was terrible ).

Semi-auto I would go for the Marlin over the 10/22 , there aren't a ton of after market parts for the Marlin ( since they don't need it ).

I have the same gun. WOW small world. i wish i had like 3 more of those rifles. Shoots better than any gun i have. it bores the heck out of me. last week i went to my local range. I shot a few rounds at steel at 100 yards. all open iron site. No problem every pull a ringer. So later on i went to shoot at the sillouetts all steel. Every pull i was hitting steel. A guy next to me was shooting a bolt action 22lr. he could not get it to hit anything. i have 3 other 22lr rifles by far this is the best ever made. i have 2 7 round magazines and 3 of the 15 round banana magazines

Savage Mark II FV bold action. It may not be the fastest but is sure can shoot.

I picked mine up two weeks ago and just got to the range Thursday to sight it in. It was windy and right at dusk when I went to the 100 yd range. When I got the scope sighted, the next five rounds were within a 1" circle, no flyers. I didn't have a chance to get the target as the range was closing. But be sure that I will be posting my results the next time I go out. :D

And by the way. The only thing I need to buy for it are mags and the scope. No tinkering, no fiddling, just shoot and enjoy.

I just got shot my GV for the first time, I got it on tuesday, out of the five ammo's I tried the only one that did not go under 5/8 was the CCI blazer, but it was close, all 5 shot groups.
And when I was putting it away I found that I had not tightened the lug bolts when I cleaned it, both were very loose.

Very much worth the money

I am not sure how you can beat a Model 60 right out of the box. Of course I recommend buying one used at a pawn shop or something.

They are just as good used and abused as NIB. Too bad you can't say the same for a 10/22 which requires lots of cash to make it cool

Yep boy, the Model 60 is the shiznit

Yep the ole 60 is hard to beat, especially for the $75 to $90 you can find the used OTD here local!

I have been keeping my eye open for another one. This thing just flat out runs and shoots darn nice ( trigger sux ).
It's my favorite iron sighted 22.

Yet another vote for the amazing Marlin 60

Got mine (which was used and abused) for $50 OTD at a gunshow. After cleaning her up, I have had no troubles at all with feeding it any brand of ammo, and it is crazy accurate for such a cheap rifle. Mine is set up as a small game hunting rifle with a Weaver K4 scope.

For cheap, you CANNOT find a better deal than the Marlin 60- bottom line

Remington 597! The $150.00 plastic stock/scoped packaged deal
at some of the box stores. Shoot great and should all come with the circle 10
magazines. We like them so much we have four .17HMR,.22mag, and two in .22lr.
