Just acquired a SP101 2.25 barrel in 357...am looking for a good iwb design for carry....most of my experience has been with autos...my all time favorite holster has to be the alessi talon....would this design work for this design revolver?

what are some of the tops in holsters for these snubbies? I guess I consider the milt sparks versamax 2 tops for my 1911's...
what works well for that fat little cylinder?
cheers,
Derek

I have a Alessi Talon for a 3" S&W Model 13 (K-frame). I've only worn the combo a few times, but I'm thinking it might replace my Makarov as my everday carry piece. The gun is just a little less comfortable then the Makarov, mainly because of the thickness of the cylinder, but I think I can get used to it or find a more comfortable position. I use the appendix carry position with the Mak, but I'm not sure if that's the best spot for the Smith.

I'd say give the Talon a try if you already like the design.

Allesi or Milt sparks are top notch. And belive me you need top notch with the weight vs. phisical shape of the sp101.

I've carried one in an Allesi rig every day for a couple years now, no discomfort at all, just had to adjust to the weight.

We do have a member that does carry rigs. I'll be getting with him soon to get a custom rig for my sp101. His THR handle is PRCCW IIRC.

yup his handle is PRCCW..

there ARE a couple more of us that do custom rigs...To bad more people dont carry the sp101 in a pocket holster:D

Have several AKJ Concealco IWB holsters for semi-autos and revolvers. All of them are comfortable for all day use. I have one on order for my SP-101 right now in fact.

I have been using a pair of Alessi Talon holsters since 1993 or so and love them! I have a 642 tucked in one behind my right hip at this very moment. You cannot go wrong with one.

The afore mentioned recommendations sound good. But, before dropping more than a $20 bill on a holster, may I recommend an under $20 Uncle Mike's "Sidekick" size 36. This is an IWB nylon holster with a slight forward cant. I cut the bottom barrel end out a bit & reinforced the stiching at the cut to make the SP101 ride a little lower and more secure. It's worked very well for me. And, for under $20, you'll know if IWB carry is right for you with this revolver.

I'm sure these can be obtained at most well stocked firearms related retailers - or on the web directly from Uncle Mike's to your door within a week or two.

I just hate buying stuff then finding out after the fact that it's really not what I wanted. Getting one of these inexpensive holsters will give you the opportunity to "test drive" a rig before decieding to upgrade to a more expensive product - if in fact it's really what you THOUGHT you wanted in the first place.

Just to throw another name in the ring

I've been carrying with a Don Hume IWB every day for the past 2 years. The wife also uses one, although she carries in the pocket most often. I've had no complaints and they cost under 30 bucks.

Ditto on the Kramer. It rides real well with Taurus 617ti and the SP 101 is just about the same size frame.

I use McDaniels II from Andrews Leather. It is geat quality and is adjustable for angle of cant (or is that cant angle?). You can switch the belt loops for different sizes and it came with my choice of two. At least at the Lakeland FL. gun show it did. Bonus, I actually was buyin it for a Detective Special and trusted Andrews' friend (selling that day) that the SP101 holster works for both. It sure does, now I have both the 6-gun and the 5-gun and it works for both.
