Heard that one on an internet audio drama (about zombies even!) at zombiepodcast.com. I thought it seemed like a pretty good name, especially considering the character that owned it. Ex-marine, vietnam vet, gun collector, lady's man... All around good fella. LOL

I favor using "American" as the first word in the name. It's patriotic and allows you to be one of the first names in the yellow pages. Some thoughts:

American Freedom Oufitters
American Arms
American Patriot Firearms
American Family Defense
American Hunter
American Pride Firearms and Training

Tactital to practical. You could put tripple A to get listed near the top of the phone book and searches. You also could use a slogan underneath, like we fit the weapon to the needs of the customer. Or free training with your new gun. Just something to let them know you go the extra mile. The training could just be a 10 minute conversation, while you are selling or after they pay..Unless there is some sort of liability issue with that.

The Yellow Pages? I think you're probably showing your age there. The Yellow Pages are a medium barely used anymore. Internet searches are far more common now, and they're not typically alphabetized (typically they're sorted by relavancy, or if searching an area, by distance from the target).

I am 39 and well aware of the Internet. Some of the old timers, who buy a lot of the guns, still use the yellow pages in print and online (not alphabetized). My main reason for using "American" is patriotism.

Yeah, I don't think you need to worry about the phone book. I would also avoid words like 'tactical' or other SHTF or TEOTWAWKI words or phrases. We have one of those out here and I’ve never been inside, sort of like not wanting anyone to see my car parked at the porn shop or strip bar. The SHTF whackos will come in regardless of the name (and spend very little) but the regular Joe gun owner or prospective gun owner will be much more likely to shop at a place with a respectable name and atmosphere. JMHO

I'm reminded of the story of a Veterinarian who rented out a space in his building to a taxidermist, the sign for which went up right next to that of the Vet. After much consultation and conversation, the two went in 50% each on a banner which hung over their two signs and declared: "Either way, you'll get your pet back!"

Uhh. Probably a bad message to send.

I like Mr. Blue's suggestion to incorporate American into the name. It sure can't hurt, at least. (Also I still use yellow pages too, and I'm 26. Ironically, I only use them to find gun shops, and pretty much for nothing else).

I remember hearing about a gun shop that incorporated the word Family in their name. I think that's a great idea too. It sends the right message, imo. Guns are popular among mature, family-minded individuals.

LOL, now thats funny

TEOTWAWKI. That sounds like an artsy fartsy store specializing in Native American nick nacks made in China.

T&S Enterprises

It is professional and businesslike.

Your advertising will tell customers what you sell and where you are. That's sufficient.

I used to live just down the road from the Gunbarrel Veterinary Clinic.

T&S Firearms would be my choice between the two.

It’s a bit plain vanilla, but people like vanilla. It really depends on who you intend to market too and what type of guns you’re going to carry though. As others have said I’d have doubts about a place called Gun Gorilla.

I think people are right that Gun Gorilla doesn't sound quite professional enough. But I think it would be a good advertising slogan.

T&S Firearms:
THE GUN GORILLA!

Match that with some nice graphics of an armed ape. See if you can get the phone number 1-xxx GOR-ILLA. The imaging and branding idea behind "gun gorilla" can be preserved without making it the company name.

So you have a solid and respectable sounding company name and a cute and memorable tag line for people to remember. What's not to like?

Think about the products you intend to sell and your target customer base. Selling AR15s and AK47s to tactical enthusiasts is different from selling Purdey and Churchill shotguns to affluent wingshooters.

Somehow I can't see myself buying a nice old Greener from "Gun Gorilla." Nor do I think I'd buy an AR15 from "Olde World Arms."
