The reading I've done suggests that Browning/modified Browning designs with camming/tilting barrels are not usually recommended for use with suppressors. On top of that, polymer frames are supposedly more stressed with the extra weight of a can hanging off the end, and thus it appears it might be wise to pick another handgun other than a Glock 17 to suppress.

- Berettas are the obvious choice, but I'm not much of a fan.
- CZ (CZ 75?) also are spoken well of, except that barrels are hard to find (Bar-Sto makes them, at least, one run per year).
- Hi-Powers are a Browning design (which is usually a good thing, I know)
- Sig... I hear good things about Sigs, but doesn't the barrel cam during the cycle?
- HK is another obvious choice, but I'm not fanatical about the bore height - they also seem to be available with just polymer frames, even though they look to be designed for use with a can.

Thus far, the CZ looks to be the best choice, followed by an HK. That said, which 9mm pistol is the most reliable platform for use with a suppressor, in your opinion?

In every pistol on your list, except for the Beretta, the barrel cams down. See the post no. 4 below for a diagram of the Baretta 92.

As to which is the better platform for a suppressor, I don't know. I suspect any one of them will do, if the suppressor is specifically designed for them.

Edited 'cause I finally woke up.

AFAIK, only the new 90two uses the rotating bbl lockup. The rest of the locked breech Berettas use the same Browning originated tilt breech camming lockup method. I'm sure Correia will be along to offer his expertise. He's THR's residennt class III dealer, and really knows his stuff.

Oops... Yes, you are correct, it's the 90two I was thinking of....

With the 92, it's the locking block that cams up and down... I think. ( Not so sure now... need more coffee.... :( ;) )

Most modern center fire pistol cans (for example, the AAC Evolution series) has some sort of recoil booster that allows it to work on most tilting barrel or polymer framed guns. It is a little item in the rear of the can that looks like a spring loaded multi lug bolt. (I can't explain the science, I just know that they work).

Older cans that just consist of a series of baffles will still have a problem. Primarily for center fire pistol cans we just stick with the AAC stuff, and don't have an issue.

Now the Beretta 92 does work very well suppressed. I've got one right now with an Evo on it. The beauty part? You don't need to buy an extra threaded barrel, the Beretta barrel sticks out far enough you can have your smith thread it. :)

My next pistol project will be an STI 4.15 Tactical with the commander length slide, but with a 5 inch barrel, threaded. This combo works very well from what I understand, and STI has sold quite a few set up like that.
