...Ruger KP90DC....45ACP Stainless Decocker...used market $300-400...strong, reliable, powerful...will probably last 3 generations with minimum care...
I'll second that. I have one and it has never made a bobble.

The '' best '' differs according to the shooter, so there does not exist a '' best handgun '' accepted as the '' best one '' by everyone, and this why there exist many designs and calibers all over the world, and this is also why the designers are still searching for the best handgun, IMHO...Choose any brand and model that suits you and your needs the best, so this the best handgun for you.

Regards.

The BEST? Thats too subjective....

For polymer Id recommend the Springfield XD, regardless of caliber. For a bit more metal, Id consider the Sig Sauer P226, P239 or (if .45ACP is your thing) the P220. But, the Kimber 1911, H&K USPs, various Rugers, etc., are also nice guns.

Which gun is "best" is far too subjective as any of these weapons can fail, yet many of them are also quite dependable. However, each one "feels" different and in some cases, are functionally different as well. So basically, its up to your needs and what fits you best that is the ultimate factor here.

I will say this, however; if you are wanting anything above a 9mm Id stay away from Glock (particularly when dealing with the .40 S&W). This is just an opinion....

I've become a fan of the Smith & Wesson "3rd Generation" autos. The 4506 is pretty highly thought of. It's what I'd consider "big and heavy" comparable to a 1911. There are many who don't consider either "big and heavy".

As far as accuracy and reliability in a "full-size starts with a .4_ and lasts forever", you can't go wrong with one of these.

It's 3rd Gen S&W autoloaders for me....

S&W 4506 or 645, 1006 1076 just to begin with. These guns are all-stainless steel, well made, back by the factory if repairs are needed and accurate. I have a thang for the 3rd Gen S&W autoloaders. :D

I just got a S&W 40 Cal and love it comes with the three changeable grips. I am new to pistols but love this gun have put about 400 rounds threw it works like a champ. Not trying to brag but during our conceled and carry class I was the only one to hold all mine in the ten ring to the dismay of a couple of deputy sheriffs, that had to look over my gun they seemed impressed with it.

That CZ will not malfunction. all CZ's are made to the same standard of reliability and accuracy. I am very familiar with all of the CZ's and i love them to death. good pistol
(you can get a bayonet for it too!!)

A .45 acp 1911, properly set up, is a joy to shoot. (mil-spec or army issue ain't properly set up)

An M&P 40 is a good gun with reasonable capacity. Fits most hands well.

Add a Glock 35 or 21 SF or an XD-45 or an M&P .45 and you're done.

Forums like this help convince me that I need a .45 1911 just fell like a legitimate American. And I don't think there's anything wrong with that. What was that quote I read on someone else's signature, "The 9mm is great for kiiling Europeans but for truly dangerous people you need a .45."

Glock: Absolutely Reliable

Springfield XD: They don't work for me but they are very reliable

1911: I like the Taurus for the money. A lot of bells and whistles for not lot of green. My first one has been 100% reliable with factory ammo. I have had a total of thee failures through 2800 rounds. All three were due to bad reloads. I trust that gun as much as my Glock.

Top of the line 1911 of your choice, except Kimber please in .45
You have to have the Sig 220 platfrom
you also should have a Browning HP
Don't forget a CZ

If different calibers is your thing instead of the Sig 220 go with the 229 and get a .40 or .357SIG that way you have a .45 a 9mm and a 40 or 357

I'm with Airburst and Jim PHL: In .40 cal., make mine a Model 4006 Third Generation Smith. I have a long experience with this line of pistols and have come to respect their supreme reliability and quality of manufacture. Get one while the getting is good.

I carry a Sig 226 in 40 cal as my duty weapon. It is the finest handgun that I have personally shot. I have shot "master" with it at the range for the last several years. Having said that, I also own a Springfield 1911 Mil-spec and I love it dearly. I also have a Colt Govt 380, which is a true "point-of-aim" pistol. As close to "tack-driver" as I can get. There are a lot of really good handguns out there, and I personally believe that the "best handgun" title is only valid to the person holding/owning that particular gun. There are gems, and then there are also throw-away guns out there. I think we all have a good idea which is which.

+1. My cheap 200 dollar FEG copy of the PPK shoots the same way.

Try also Walther P99 in .40. You will be amazed with the ergonomics. Then you have to decide which trigger set up you prefer, QA or SA. But go hold one first. Outstanding fit and finish....and you actually get two mags. Unlike SIG.

Sheepdog:

I am not into Rugers because they are so butt ugly, but I must comment that you, your son and your grandson must be VERY hard on guns if you can wear out a Ruger in just three generations.

I betcha you all get tunnel carpal syndrome before you wear out that Ruger.

It is pretty obvious that Glock is the most used firearm in the law enforcement community. That should say alot about a firearm. I also like Sig's. They are still pretty widely used in many agencies. I have a P228(yes I know it is a 9mm) and it is a real shooter. Reliable, accurate and just an all around great gun. I myself am looking at 1911's right now. I am trying to decide which I want to buy. I am very seriously considering a Kimber.

glock 22, it's like a toyota camry. you will not regret buying one.
1911 is like a BMW then, the ultimate shooting machine.
