Is the Sabre Defense upper a 1 in 7, 1 in 8, or 1 in 9, that you are contemplating?

It's the 1 in 8. It's the only one that had a 20 inch barrel. There was a 1 in 7, but it was an 18 inch barrel.

Since my maximum engagement envelope is out to 600 meters I figured a 20 inch barrel would be ideal, even if it's a 1 in 8 twist.

If you buy a stripped lower, it's not specific to either carbine or rifle stock. If you buy a completed lower, it will come with one or the other.

I'll likely purchase a completed lower that is specific to the rifle stock as well as the completed Sabre Defense upper.

Heck I might just buy the complete rifle from Sabre Defense and then purchase the optics, scope mounts, and stock ergonomics separately.

Bingo, good combo for long range - you can use the long all-copper Barnes TSX 62 or 70 grainer, or lead-based bullets up to 80 or more, such as the SMK 77, SMK 80, and Hornady 75s.

From Barnes website:

*Recommended twist rate is 1:8 or faster #22470 [the 70 gr TSX]

Oops, I was mistaken, thinking that that Sabre was 1 in 7. But as mentioned, for any bullet length that will actually feed through the magazine, the 1 in 8 will stabilize it.

Has anyone bought a Sabre Defense AR-15 out of the box? I think I might just wind up purchasing the Sabre Defense AR-15 with the 20" barrel with the 1 in 8 twist and then purchase the scope and mount separately as well as the ergonomic stock addition.

As for scope I think I might use the Nikon and then add the mounts...

I'd say it might be most economical to purchase the whole rifle and make my modifications (telescopic sight/rings, stock ergonomics and the like). The Sabre Defense rifle comes with the bipod and has all the features I'm looking for out of the box.
