Best state for gun owners

All in all, New Hampshire, Alaska, Vermont and a few other states are pretty much a gun owner's heaven and the envy of states like California. Thing is we need to all get on the same page and work to pass laws to make every state a shall issue state.

In 1986 there were only 8 shall issue states, today there are 35. We have made alot of progress but much more needs to be done. Get active, join the NRA, your local RKBA associations and contact your legislators. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Paolo,
You're right.

Someone earlier made a very good point. All the people in states that don't have Right to Carry, work on making it May Issue. All the people in May Issue states, work to make it Shall Issue. All people in the Shall Issue states, work to make it Vermont/Alaska/New Hampshire carry. Also work to recognize each other state's permits and fight for State wide consistency.

As a relatively new TX resident with a very good, very pro-2A friend who lives in NH, I have to say that either NH or VT are the best places to live overall. AK may be slightly better regarding RKBA, but I think that there is a reason that only approx. 500,000 people live in a place that's as big as the US east of the Mississippi. That's nothing against those living there - hearty souls all - but for most people the climate is too hostile.

Should NH get VT-style carry, then I'd rate it as the best state.

BTW, my NH friend and I are both refugees from the PRNJ as of about 3 years ago. Even though TX ain't perfect, it is definitely "day" compared to the PRNJ's "night." TX would come far closer to perfection if certain sections of Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Austin were to stop voting. But at least neither of us will be going to prison for owning metal boxes containing springs that the state considers to be "too big" (over 15 rounds). For the curious, the penalty is up to 5 years per, plus a felony conviction that will eliminate your ability to legally own a gun anywhere for the rest of your life. Take my advice - DON'T EVER move to Jersey!

Sounds good at first, until you find out that over half the land in Alaska is federally owned!

True, but most of the agencies (Forest Service and BLM) are very easy to get along with. The NPS is a whole different story, as I mentioned. But their ownership is limited. Besides, there are still vast tracts of land that have been subdivided which nobody has every bothered to homestead or develop. I'm living on one right now, bought for just over $2,000 an acre. Not too shabby.

So in New Hampshire you can walk onto a commercial jet with a firearm? You can walk into a federal building with a firearm, right through the metal detectors? I think not. As I said, looking at STATE law is only part of the picture.

As far as the banks go, I have requested and received an armed escort for no charge back to my vehicle when carrying a large amount of cash from a commercial account (in that case over $10 g) . Plus, who's to know whether you are packing? I've yet to see a bank in Alaska with a metal detector.

Which state is best in terms of gun laws favorable to gun owners?

Denial. :D

Bruce H you beat me to the punch...

When I move from CA, I am sure any state will be better. But I don't want to have to go to Alaska to find out. I'm not that Thoreau.

by Cosmoline.....And no, you are not allowed to concealed carry into Airports

Sorry, But yes I can and frequently do. I fly quite frequently and as a CCL holder in NH, I simply walk right up to the ticket counter declare my weapon and it is then checked into baggage (not carry-on) inside an approved locked container with ammo in seperate locked container.

No, but neither can anyone else other than LEOs do so. I can however legally walk into the federal building check my concealed weapon at the door and retrieve it on the way out.

In NH I can legally escort myself in and out of the bank with my CCW. Thank you very much.

On the contrary, given that federal law is the same for us all and that is a given, then our state CCL are the only thing that differentiates us and the fact is that in NH you are free to carry in far more places legally than you are in Alaska. "STATE law" is all of it

I thought this was a debate over which state had the best CC laws. If one choses to ignore them it really doesn't matter which state you live in. All 50 would be equal.
