Ever wonder how commercial firearm manufacturers come up with a guns name, number, or identification? Some manufacturing businesses employ marketing focus groups to make the selection.

Obviously military designations have endured to a point where no "superlative adjective" is necessary. (M1 Garand, K98, etc.)

What's the best and worst designations marketing geniuses have used on the gun buying public?

I'm gonna go with best...

Colt:
King Cobra
Python

Ruger:
Blackhawk

S&W:
Highway Patrolman :)

Not sure if that is what you were after or not...

Edit: Lol... looks like I misunderstood...

How about "Magnum" then :)

Heritage Rough Rider... sounds like a bad gay movie from the 70's....

For the record, I was 3-13 in the 70's so save the wise cracks....

Here's the worst: "Assault Rifle" or "AR".

Here's the best: anything with the brand name and then a plain number, like Remington 870 or Glock 27.

Let a gun's use in the real world define what the heck it is.

Charter Arms seemed to be on a dog theme....
- Bulldog
- Mag Pug
- Bulldog Pug
- Bulldog tracker
- Police Bulldog
- Pit bull
- Off Duty
- Undercoverette

Some of the better ones I liked....
- Desert Eagle
- Python
- Streetsweeper
- Lady Smith

Ones that that left me scratching my head.....
- (Ljutic) Bi-Matic Semiautomatic

Before Charter Arms had the "Pink Lady" they sent it out for testing under the name the "Pink B**ch". I wanted one, but they never made it to market.

Anyone remember the "Snake Charmer" or the SA "Springfield Formula Squirtgun"?

For starters, "AR" does not stand for Assault Rifle. I got an e-mail from Beretta a few years ago. They actually had a contest to name the 90-Two. That wasn't the name I picked, but I bought one and I love my "Scorpion". LOL

I'll probably get flamed, but.....I'll be honest, I always thought "Desert Eagle" was kind of stupid. The weapon is awesome, but the name is.....

One of the best - The Colt Single Action Army (also known as the Colt Peacemaker)

I'm trying to imagine it with a different name.....can't get Desert Eagle out of my mind.

Taurus' "The Judge"; I actually think the name is kind of cool, but don't think for one second such a designation is going to work for you...in a court of law!!!

Benelli SBE. Super Black Eagle? Seriously, where did they come up with that one? And what did they think it was going to do for them?

I've always enjoyed the Pancor Jackhammer. Quite the apt name if you ask me.

The Baby Eagle, though? What the :cuss:, MR? What was wrong with Jericho 941?
