Before I go out and buy a SW642 I want to be sure I have looked at all the other options available to me........

I am specifically interested in the Taurus 445 44 special snubby, what frame is this built on, anyone have a comparison shot to a J frame? Also could it be pocket carried.

Also Any other mid frame big bore snubbys that could be carried easily OWB under a tshirt or in a pocket would be very helpful......just info gathering for now.

Thanks Guys.
Josh

The only other option would be a Charter Arms bulldog in .44 Special, but these have a mixed track record. I had a similar Tauri a few years back in .45 Colt that was quite light weight and a lot of fun to shoot. I sold it off when I got out of .45 Colt, but I believe the .44 is on the same frame. It wasn't much bigger than K frame size IIRC.

First: Taurus no longer makes the 445 .44 Special.

Second: Nothing big bore even comes close to S&W 642 airweight comparison. The 642 can just slide into a front pocke via a Mika pocket holster and you almost forget that it is there.

Third: There are a myriad of Big Bore snubbies that can be worn OWB/IWB. You can do a "Search" on all Brands made from Ruger, Rossi, S&W, Taurus, Colt, etc.

If you want a light weight pocket snubby...there are few better than the 642.

Discontinued, but nice none the less.

About a 1/2" longer and 3/4" taller than a "J". about 8 oz. heavier. Same frame as the 44 special, although the 44 is heavier.

Its similar to the SP101 in size and weight. Some folks can carry this size and weight in-pocket, but I don't find it to be comfortable.

I would love to find an unported 455 to carry. Might even replace my SP101.

Anyone have first hand expierence with the Charter Bulldog, they seem to be getting pretty good review of late maybe the QC has gone up?

This is my favorite carry gun right now... even though it is also disconinued, they are still around...

I have a charter 2000 (the latest generation) bulldog pug in my pocket right now its a little bigger 1/2" overall, fit and finish are ok not great and they're not built to be range beaters but carried alot shot a little.mine is the DAO version and it will put 200 golddots POA at 15 yards. I like it.I switch out carrying it with my M&P 340 when I know I'm gonna have to leave it in the car. P2270083.gif P2270082.gif P2270081.gif

Mavracer thanks for the great pics, that really helps me get an idea of the size before I actually go out and fondle one

There's nothing like the big-azz holes of a .45 snubbie revolver's barrel, plus six holes showing Speer "Flying Ashtray" hollowpoints to make a BG's eyes get big and his agressions disappear!

AN ARMED SOCIETY . . . IS A POLITE SOCIETY!;)

Here's mine, a 1980 6" S&W 25-2 in .45ACP, shortened to a 3 1/4" barrel. It is an awesome carry gun and "gun games" match revolver too!

Shoots great too . . . here's a typical target (1" black square target, six rounds in one hole @ ten yds., standing/unsupported:
