I knwo he has made a statement or two since Katrina, but this one takes it to a whole new level for him.

Half way through his interview with the NRA guy I wanted to break my remote, but then he started to roll over and almost change. Then before I know it, he let the guy speak, and speak, and speak, and even let the guy finish up without injecting his normal 'this is how it is' type thing that he almost always does. it was like wow, this guy just said the government absolutely cannot protect us and that all the gun laws in the world won't get rid of guns...and Bill goes a head and adds that Great Brittan still has criminal with guns....I swear I thought the world stopped spinning for a second. Then to top it off, his next interview that ripped Rosie a new one started off about guns and how she is so much better than everyone else in her mind because she admitted to having armed guards.

Wow. Just wow. I still don't like him for the most part, but wow. Now I wish I would have seen the first half hour of the show.

I was just watching him and he said that Virginia's gun laws are too lax.

Bill really needs to spend one day with someone like Eugene Volokh or Dave Kopel and get an intellectual understanding of the 2nd amendment and gun control. He is just not well informed. He did not grow up in a situation to know any better. Someone needs to set up a day meeting of the above ----they could meet at the NRA place in VA and maybe Bill could actually shoot a few firearms also. That is what the man needs---- a little more education. Because we are right.:p

Yes, but if I recall (I honestly can't recall the conversation verbatim), he followed that with allowing the guest to start off answering something like, "we already have 20,000 gun laws on the books, is this correct?"

Either way, I felt he let the issue get debated more fairly than 98% of stuff that he does daily.

He has said that Katrina changed his mind on gun control and that people should not be left defenseless. Of course with our laws that's way every school campus is.

How are VA's laws 'lax'? They look on paper about the same as 75% of the states - I just bought an M1 Garand today and they made sure I wasnt a nut job or a felon- what more do you need?

You didn't miss anything. It didn't get good until Mark Smith (was that his name?) got on. I missed the next interview where they talked about Rosie. Too bad. I figured O'Reily was gonna side with her since he asked "does she have a point" when the show started.

O'Reily started off by telling the NRA guy that thugs from NY can't get guns in town so they make a fake ID, head down to VA and buy tons of em, and our guy looked like a deer in the headlights untill he countered with the 20,000 gun laws stat. I thought he could have done a little better than that, there were a couple holes in that theory that anyone with knowledge of the NICS program, Waiting period, or 1 gun a month laws in Virginia would have been able to counter. O'Reiley is not pro-gun, or a friend of ours, he is Pro Bill-O and thats about it. I equate the Bill-O show to be the Jerry Springer of News, just as much yelling, but not as many broken chairs.

Yeah, the thugs from NY comment also included him saying something about them filling their trunks up with guns in VA and heading back to NY. That is just stupid.

Geraldo was on Bill-O and Hannity and Colmes keeping with his "Horriffic massacre caused by some looser with weapons of mass destruction!!!" the man that practicly invented over the top sensationalism never dissapoints:rolleyes:

I had to turn him off today when he was denying any gun confiscation in NOLA. He is simply uninformed about the lawsuits and videotapes.

Bill O'Reily on our side? I'm not sure if that helps or hurts our cause...He's just left of dear Ms. Coulter on the Reactionary index...

I Think Bill isn't totally informed

He seemed to have the opinion that anyone in VT could just walk in and pick up a gun and walk...like the media is going to portray what happened. But, when the NRA guy explained the process, he sat back and let the guy talk. That guy was GRRRREEAAATTT! He did us proud!
Bill has his warts but, he does seem to try to keep an open mind (at times).

On his radio show today he said "I don't think anyone should be able to carry a handgun."

Make of that what you will.

No he is not on our side of the debate. Though he is not a raving anti RKBA, he does believe in strict gun control, with NYC type restrictions, registration, background checks, and no CCW. All he believe is that one can own A firearm for home defense, maybe a few more if your an avid hunter.

Yep, he started into the show as if he were going to lambaste the anti-gunners, then moved in to promote waiting periods, body cavity searches, etc.
Maybe he should hook up with Rosie for a weekend.
:barf:

Bill O'Reilly is in favor of Bill O'Reilly.

I can't take seriously any commentator, journalist, or however else he describes himself, who hawks t-shirts and coffee mugs at the end of each show.

Maybe you'd hawk the stuff too if you raised as much for charity as he does. And it all goes to charity.

wow im watching a dateline thing.. on the va murders... and they are saying buying a gun is easy... it should be...us honest people shouldnt have to go through more than the background check.. the murderer was going to find a weapon one way or anyother...

O'Reilly supports some gun control measures that are not defined. He seemed outraged by the VA Tech events. He straddles the fence for the most part of this issue. I don't think you can depend on him for a hard 2A stance.

"Maybe you'd hawk the stuff too if you raised as much for charity as he does. And it all goes to charity."

Good point. But there are better ways to phrase the offers than the county-fair-huckster fashion he uses.

And perhaps people wouldn't perceive him as being a huckster if everything he sells on his site didn't have his name on it.

When Bill started not only disputing the DOCUMENTED gun confiscations during Katrina but ALSO stating the there was a "public good" rationale for them, I tried to call in.

When they wouldn't take my call I turned him off. He will stay off.

He flip-flops whichever way the wind blows. I remember him making Pro-gun comments regarding Katrina a bit back-- and I even started a thread to discuss it.

I guess I've been a fan-- being that I have agreed with him often (disagreed some). I don't attack him lightly. That forces me to admit I was wrong about him, and no one likes to admit they are wrong.

Unless he was down here during Katrina, he needs to shut his trap on what went on. He doesn't know, and I resent him speaking from an authoritiarian view on the subject as often as he has.

He's turned off, and for good.

Re: Talking Heads

I didn't like the comment about Virginia gun laws being too lax. I don't see how he is on the gun owners side. Since he hates the Roanoke Times, I was hoping he would see that Turdball's attack on CHP holders was wrong, but narry a mention. Of the talking heads on TV and Radio, I think Hannidy, Boortz, and Maharushie are more on our side than O'reily. I don't listen much to the others to know.
