Bill to repeal CA AWB!

Well, we don't know who to write letters to, not yet :) I think it'll first be heard in the Public Safety Committee. Once I find out for sure, I'm going to put together the relevant contact info and spread it far and wide.

I've sent a heads-up to every gun store and shooting range in San Diego I could find contact info for. I would suggest that people throughout California compile contact info for their local stores and ranges... Google for "Your_area gun store", look in the Yellow pages, and then Google the names, etc. Start putting together a list of email addresses. If you can't find a "Contact Us" link on the website, do a WHOIS from geektools.com or something.

If we could get every gun store in the state to ask everyone who walks through the doors to contact these people, we can bury them in paper. That's going to be the only way to get this bill moved forward.

Who should we write to? Should we write to our Assemblymen?

It can't hurt!

I think the first hurdle is the Public Safety Committee. I just don't know right now. As soon as I find out, have no fear... the word will be passed along!

It can't be a bad idea for Californians to join http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ca-firearms/ Stuff like this will always be posted there. It's a pretty low-volume list... joining won't get you inundated with mail :)

I wish you guys the best of luck on this one - if everyone keeps on this, it will be a HUGE step to getting your rights back.

Good luck fellas!

Let me know who to write; I HATE going o California cuz' it makes Maryland look like Vermont. I won't mind telling your reps that.....

Hmm, if we do manage to get this through, how long do you think it will take?

Hard to say. I think bills that are signed typically take effect Jan 1 If it's headr in committee in a month, I'm guessing we can expect to see it there for a week or two. Assuming it gets out, it would go to an Assembly floor vote. If it passes there, it goes to the Senate, and maybe another committee. Maybe another month or so before it might see the Governors desk?

We need to put together a list of "talking points" with support... things like the FBI stat that said "assault rifles" are used in less than 2% of "firearms crime", people using "assault rifles" to defend their families, like the '92 LA riots, etc. Links to web sites or other citable sources are good.

Phyphor tells Arnold:

**** if you want a second term, punk. WE want our :cuss: rights back.

(crossing fingers, writing (ON PAPER, NOT EMAIL) his assemblyman.... )

(edited for stupid typo)

Yes, lets get on this. However, I really don't want any of you to get your hopes up and think this thing has much of a chance. WE JUST LOST .50 BMG! .50 BMG is in this legislation that it would repeal. Do you guys really think a liberal state and governor who just passed a brand new ban are really going to overturn it in addition to a more comprehensive ban just a few months after they put it in?

We can call and write all we want, I still give this thing a snowball's chance in hell. I will do it as we have nothing else to do, I just don't want to see anyone's hopes crushed when it dies in flames.

I honestly believe the only way we will ever turn this state around will involve a lot of people dying. :(

With the redistricting plan the Governor is working on, it's possible the liberals are going to be on the defensive. They have more to think about, and if we can turn up the volume enough, we can make them seriously consider their futures in a post-redistricting California. If it becomes expedient to them to repeal the AWB to have a chance at keeping their cushy elected positions, they'll sell out in a heartbeat.

Yes, this is a long shot. But the more of us who tries to make it work, the better a chance we have.

You mean before Govenor RINOnegger vetos it?

About as long as it takes him to remove the cap from his pen.

Governor Schwarzenegger is, above all things, a pragmatist. Political compromise means nothing to him if his agenda is met.

That said, what Republican governor in his right mind would veto or seek to repeal a bill supported by his own platform which, by the way, has a second term president and a majority presence in congress??

The AWB is gone, the same people who control Gov. Schwarzennegger's ability to become President let it die, and our state laws in CA are looking less 'progressive' and more 'radical' every day.

If he wants to promote, he'll sign it. He might not be able to touch Maria for a long while, but he'll sign it.

I hope ;)
