Bill to repeal CA AWB!

Alright, I finally broke down and called Mr. LaSuer's Sacramento office. His assistant was very helpful and on the spot in terms of LaSuer's feelings on the issue, support groups and the entire process of getting the bill passed.

Essentially the revocation of the bill boils down to the hellfire of anti-gun letters that have poured in from whiney cizitens who think the guns are going to go on sprees by themselves. The woman I spoke to said even those who go into the Sacramento office and are confronted with hard facts by LaSuer or his staff still vehemently deny the facts and will not succumb to reason. Mr. Lasuer feels it's nessecary to wiat out the negative effects of the bill's coming into existance for a year or so, then reintroduce it when the tides are more favorable. He feels that there is just too much opposition now.

LaSuer and his supporters want to give more time for reason and fact to spread concerning the bill before bringing it to committee again.

It was suggested to me that I check out Gun Owners of California (www.gunownersca.com), LaSuer's main sponsor on the bill and help them with their struggle. It's my understanding that they are very active in the community, spreading flyers, doing interviews, writing letters and the like. At the very least, you can read about current gun news in California at their site.

So LaSuer hasn't given up, or revoked the bill permanently. But if the bill were to be heard in committee and NOT pass, they would have to wait 2 more years to reintroduce it, as opposed to the months to a year they plan to wait now until conditions are more favorable to the bill's passing.

Sending letters is about all we can do at this point, beyond financial support, but ultimately we need to wait for some of the liberals' assembly positions to lapse or be replaced (actually not just the assembly but all of Sacramento).

It's interesting to know that there were that many anti letters. It's obvious that some Brady Bunch type of group was instigating that... there just isn't enough public awareness of the legislative process for a bunch of whiny soccer moms to just "know" about AB448, and I don't recall seeing any news coverage.

The only counter I can think of to the FUD they spread is getting letters, editorials, and maybe even an article in the paper with facts and reasonable discourse, not "pro-assault-weapon mania". The public isn't going to be swayed by arguments about the intent of the Founding Fathers with the Second Amendment... they're sheep. So, maybe play on the fear of the sheep... making a case for defending businesses from looters like the Rodney King riots. If there's one thing whiny liberals hate and fear more than guns, it's the thought of the "downtrodden masses" coming after them. All of their bleeding-heart peace-and-love nonsense goes right out the window when South Central LA explodes into rioting :)

I was thinking about a "balance" campaign.

Have a scale with a gun on either side, one representing criminal's guns, one representing law-abiding citizen's guns ("law-abiding" is key).

Gun control removes the law-abiding citizen's from the scale and immediately it bottoms out on the criminal's side. No ammount of prodding will bring the law-abiding citizen's side back into balance, the scale will always tip back over to the criminal's side without constant pressure. The only way to balance the scale is to put the law-abiding citizen's gun back on the other side.

For years the scale has been tipped heavily towards the criminal's side. They have "assault weapons" and we don't. They have fully automatic weapons, we don't. There is no balance whatsoever. No ammount of law is going to make it harder for a criminal to get and use guns, but removing the laws which only serve to prohibit law-abiding citizens from obtaining firearms will. Nothing else will. It's time we balance the scale.

It would be easy to argue for CCW with the same campaign.

It's a shame our side doesn't have the endless resources and media connections to bring that message to the people of California.

As a veteran of the divorce wars, you might want to keep one or two things in mind. In the last several years before the divorce, I knew that there were some things that just weren't good. But, it was always my thought that we could sit down like adults and talk things out and get our problems squared away. Of course, I was wrong. Some things are not amenable to reason and logic, but are pure emotion. No matter what I said or how I said it, it never reached her in that bundle of emotions deep inside that was really her. Hope blinded me to what was really taking place, and I learned a hard lesson on how different people approach things, and how certain signals, etc., can be a real indicator to what's actually taking place.

Bottom line, be aware of everything. Understand that communication can take place on a lost of different levels. Look at everything she does and says. Be careful that your own emotions don't blind you to what's taking place, and listen to your friends. They won't be in the position of not being able to see the forest for the trees.

FWIW,

You're dreaming if you think a few letters are going to impact a legislature with a democratic majority. I learned long ago that that a few powerful people with an agenda care little about what a large number of ordinary citizens think. To wit: Many years ago during the rush to ban so-called assult weapons in every municipality, I got wind that the city council in my own town (Whittier, Ca) was going to vote for just such an ordinance. My friends, brothers, and I called gun stores, manufacturers, and all the gun owners we could think of to put out the word so that people would come to the city council meeting. And come they did. There was standing room only and many people spoke passionately about the 2nd ammendment. My guess is that there were approximately 5 people at the meeting representing the other side. Which way do you think the council members voted? You got it - they voted to enact the ban,

That was quite the lesson to me. I realized at that point that it makes no difference if you bury someone in pro gun letters, if they are vehemently opposed to guns they will not change positions. Would you? Of course not.

Here's another eye opener folks. Out of 81 million gun owners, only 3.5 million are members of the NRA. Imagine if all the other gun owners actually contributed to the cause by becoming members, then we wouldn't have to worry about restrictive legislation anywhere. How many of you from California have gone to the gun shows and seen the guys at the NRA booth looking to sign up new members? Heck, the vast majority of the people going into the show avert their eyes and treat the guys in the booth as if they were selling vacuum cleaners or something. It's pathetic. On that some note, how many of the guys do you know at the range who are actually members? I'll bet you'd be shocked at how few there are.

So there it is. I hate to burst your bubble, but the California AWB will NEVER be overturned. It's here to stay.

Truly a long shot but every now and then they hit the mark. I lived in the PRK for the majority of my life and still have connections there. The legistlature is so perverted and passes so many inane laws that I think there will be a backlash against the Democrat contol of the legislature in the near future. They have run the State into bankrupcty.

Arnold the Governator is no friend of guns but it is not a big priority with him as it was with his Democrat predessor Davis who was the worst thing for guns that ever happened to the State. The Dems keep pandering to the illegal vote which is very significant as I have seen it first hand. If you want to see what disaster Democrats can make of a place, wait a couple of more years and you will see. The PRK needs to be re-annexed to Mexico the way it is going.

I hope this passes. I cannot stand FienSwine and Boxhead and most of the clowns that are in the legislature. I was never represented in CA in my lifetime and I am older than most here and lived there longer than most here.

Tell me where to send letters and I will.

That's why its important to support the redistricting plan AS wants done. Remember
it was Grey Davis who drew the lines last time and its been pure h*ll since.
Let retired judges figure it out.
