As the title indicates, I'm wondering if I can attach a bipod to an AR-15 pistol and NOT create an NFA violation. I don't have a tax stamp or any of the components yet, but knowing the answer will tell me whether to start buying parts or not. I don't really want to start the tax stamp process right now (might move before it's over, money for government donations is short). If I can, I'd like to have a 6.8SPC upper with a 16 or 18 inch barrel and bipod that I can transfer between rifle and pistol lowers. I know a vertical grip is a straight shot to the Ironbar Hotel but Magpul's AFG isn't. Need advice from you guys on here who know better what the ATF considers OK.

Also, Michigan feels that an SBR is too dangerous for us to own at this point.

Thanks in advance.

People hunt with pistols with bipods all the time, the Ruger charger was sold with one. You may run into trouble with one of those bipod out the bottom of a foregrip thingies you black gun guys like but a regular set of bipods is no problem.

OK thanks guys. I had heard that the broomhandle Mauser pistol had an exemption for its buttstock and didn't know if the Ruger Charger was another similar case. Wanted to be sure to stay out of hot water. Depending on money I should be able to crank this build out in the next 3 to 96 months.

An original broomhandle Mauser is exempt from the National Firearms Act regulations because of its age. The Ruger Charger is not exempt. To have a stock, it would have to be registered as a short-barreled rifle.

However, actual bipods are allowed on pistols, regardless of age.

Ahhh - government backwards bureaucracy at it's best!

"HEY YOU! If you want to hold onto the front of that pistol it has to be with a device not made for holding onto - otherwise we are going to send you to prison!!"

To mount a bipod is the only reason the XP-100 had a swivel mount on it.

Like the one on top.

Now you need to find a bipod that folds in and back separately :)

Mike

PS. Putting a vertical foregrip on a pistol does not make an SBR, it makes an AOW (if it is <26" OAL).
