"bland" non-tactical "defensive" shotgun pix

No picture right now my 870 got Choate Stocks and 25 round Ranger ammo Sling at times I put the 10 round Choate ammo tube extension on it. It still has its 28 inch modified choke barrel.

That an "assault wrench" Content?

Guy I knew decades ago was a rigger in a big city. Gets off a bus and a guy follows him off, sticks his hand inside his jacket, and says "yo, gimme yo wallet." My acquaintance sticks his hand inside his dirty coveralls too. "Yo, u aint's gots no gun man!" the robber says. "Neither do you," the victim says. The robber takes his hand out of his jacket and says "I know, now give me yo ******* wallet." This guy I knew swiftly pulled that same wrench, a little longer, out of his coveralls pocket, cracked the guy across the head dropping him to the ground, and continued his walk home.

I love the "cowboy tactical" shotgun. That's all a boy needs right there. I always have to try very hard not to laugh at some of the "ninja" shotguns that show up at the range. Bolting 2 or 3 lbs. of "accessories" on a shotgun reminds me of the Japanese car "tuner" guys with a wing bolted on to the rear deck of the front wheel drive Honda Civic. And a fart can.

MattShlock // Just an old fashion multitool... but it has tightened up a few loose nuts.;)

More plain working shotguns suitable for HD. stevens311 triple.jpg . I just made them mine, so to speak.
The Savage 311, pictured above, looks a good bit different now. It is the one in the middle.

My "home defense" shotgun is about a foot longer than ideal (BPS Hunter with a monte carlo stock added, but that's what happens when your trap and skeet gun is loaded with buckshot and kept next to the bed. Despite it's length, it's a lot better than just strong language and a frying pan. I'll post a picture later today or tomorrow.

I agree with all the comments that shotguns don't have to be loaded up with tactical gear to be effective. Here's a soldier with a Mossberg in Iraq. As traditional as you can get without using walnut.

Here is my NEF 20ga Pardner SB-1 with a chopped 18.5" barrel. This is my back-up defensive shotgun. I also refinished the stock in old english and high gloss tung oil finish.

My basic no-frills shotgun is a Maverick 88 with an 18" barrel, an elastic shell holder, and a Limbsaver on the buttstock. Nice and simple and easy to get into action.

As much as I like 12 ga., it simply kicks far too much for petite wife, especially in a pump. I am currently saving my milk money for a HD shotgun and I'm 99% sure I'm getting a 20 ga. so that she can use it to protect herself.

Kind of sad, but I know a guy who told me, while showing me a brand new gun, "I bought this pistol for my wife to use for self defense." Problem was, his wife was 220 miles away. My response was, "Now, so and so, how do you expect her to use that when she's 3 hours away?" I think a lot of men use the HD firearm as an excuse to buy what they want....if we look deeply, and really care, we'd get something that every responsible person in the house is comfortable and knowledgable in using to defend themselves. And then we'd practice with it to ensure fluidity and competence in case something goes bump in the night.

It's about a foot longer than ideal, but it's nevertheless a lot more effective than strong language. Browning BPS Hunter with the buttstock from a Browning BPS Trap. 28" barrel.

Below is my no nonsense Remington Model 1100 with a sleeve of WW rifled slugs. With the extended mag tube it will hold 8 rounds. Never had a problem with the accuracy, feeding, firing or ejecting, of the slugs or the buckshot/birdshot that we had to shoot up at Trinidad Colorado to become a range master.

I'd much rather look at these shotguns instead of the tactical ones with tons of accessories attached to them. Great thread.

One of my favorites is a Stevens 620 that will hide in plain sight in a Craftsman Underseat Toolbox.

Cokeman, when you open up the pic the stock may have already taken that damage... it looks pretty dinged up down there... still a cool gun though. I like all guns.

I thought it still looked ok. I would pop a piece of foam between them. I'm all about a gun that can break down that small and then fit perfectly in an equally small case.

I've got a H&R Pardner Protector 12g I snagged for $145 off the used rack. This shotgun has never been fired, it was still in the factory oil....
I thought it would make the prefect plain & simple HD/SHTF shottie.

My camera is borked, but since its stock(except for a sling) and will stay stock, a stock pic will do..

Bingo. I took out a couple of strategically placed foam blocks before taking the pics.

And yes, the stock had seen some action before I bought it, but it is a shooter, not a museum piece.
