Last year I got a Colt Police Positive Special (made in 1965 according to Proofhouse.com). It is in excellent overall shape except that someone chose to epoxy coat or varnish the grips. However, I am curious about the front sight blade. It has an insert that can best be described as a pastel blue in color. I like it very much and it is a color that is very easy for my eyes to pick up. Therefore, I shoot it very well. But I've never really noticed an insert of that color before and wonder if it is at all possible that it is original from the factory?

I'd say it's very unlikely it's factory.

Colt never was into the sight insert game nearly to the extent S&W was.

There was a short-lived gun magazine back in the 70's/80's maybe, that featured a DIY epoxy sight insert story in every issue it seemed.
They also sold the kit & it came with a whole bunch of color dies.
I seem to recall light blue was one of the colors.

Everybody with a triangle file was putting sight inserts in everything there for a while.

Thanks rcmodel. Now that you pointed that out I can see some slightly rough edges at the base of the insert. It was done pretty well, but clearly not by the factory. I do like it though. I appreciate your insight.
