I know that Border Patrol agents carry an HK P2000 but i was wondering if anyone knew what caliber. also does anyone know what the rules are for carrying for them. I know they can carry anywhere in the U.S. but i've heard they can only carry their duty weapon and only concealed. Im not sure if thats right, could anyone elaborate.

I've seen a BP Agent obviously on his way to/from work open carrying his sidearm at a gas station. I knew he was BP by his shirt that quite plainly stated his position, and I knew he wasn't on duty due to the fact he had a personal vehicle, I forget exactly what he was driving but it was definitely a family crossover and not anything a government would buy.

don't take this as gospel but as best as my hazy memory can serve the US boarder patrol many years back had purchased a crapload of remington 155gr JHP and had reported excellent results with the lighter faster load...I assumed it was fired in GLOCK's but really don't know. A trusted buddy of mine years ago mentioned several Federal agencies had contracted for special runs of Speer Gold Dot in a very hot 165gr load that was supposedly doing very well for them. I personally didn't even know they issued HK's so take that with a grain of salt...and I haven't talked to that instructor for like 5 years....so who knows what they use now....not me...but I always like hearing about ammo choices as well on stuff like that. Local LE here carry Federal HS 180gr...I preffer the Gold Dot 135gr load myself...to me it's a better balance for the cartridge and case capacity...it also seems to perform excellent in GLOCK 23/22's which is pretty much the only two models I've ever owned in .40 in any decent gun. (briefly had one of the old KT P40's and quickly traded it off...yuck!)

so anyone who does have the answer I'd like to know what the ammo they use in em is as well...the whole combo is more interesting to me...transfered a couple of those HK's (2000 V2's)...never shot one myself though...weird trigger setup...interesting design...would like to spend a little range time with one sometime.

Last I was aware of they were issued the Beretta 96D in .40S&W. A bunch of the Border Patrol fellows I saw a few days ago still had the 96Ds. I'm not aware of them switching to an H&K. I'm afraid I don't know what loading they use, never thought to ask.

A good friend on mine served on the panel to choose their new handgun.

It's chambered in 40 S&W, and the load is 155 grains.

U.S. Border Patrol and their "parent" agency, U.S. Customs and Border Protection issue the H&K P2000.
