Cheaper Than Dirt has announced that it is suspending online firearm sales on its Facebook page. I propose an indefinite boycott of that company until they change their policies.

I suppose that I would boycott a company if they did not believe that my right to keep and bear arms should be protected.

But that's not what's happening here, right?

im happy with a gun-sales-free facebook.

Just download them via amazon :)

I have not looked into this, (but will now) so I am wondering for what reason they believe this to be a prudent move on their part is. If they are following all state and federal firearm sales laws than there should not be an issue... I don't purchase via Facebook but interesting still.

I have e-mailed them requesting my name be stricken from their mailing list and told them I will never purchase another item from them again......suggest you do the same.
Dick's and Wal-mart too.......

If they're suspending online sales... Aren't they kind of boycotting themselves?

It seems to me that there may be more going on there than their management preemptively caving to pressure from the anti-gun lobby.

For instance, if I ran a business that sold tightly controlled items over the internet, and I had an inkling that there might be an inquisition in the near future where my online sales of a tightly controlled item were going to be carefully scrutinized, I might halt sales of those items for a little while so I could make sure all of my records for recent sales were in order. Unlike the really massive outfits like Amazon or Walmart who can afford to pay enough lawyers to stand up to the Federal government, or pay the fine if they were found liable for some level of clerical negligence, Cheaper than Dirt is relatively small, and can't afford to make a mistake in their compliance with the laws related to the sales and distribution of guns.

Can you imagine what would happen to a retailer if they were found to have sold the guns used in the Connecticut shooting to the gunman or the mother? Walmart and Academy could probably survive, but a local or regional outfit could easily be put out of business as a result.

I was about to make a post about this. They haven't really been selling guns that long, they were accessories and surplus for years and I assume they feel like they can go back to that. Typically their Facebook posts are all about 2nd amendment rights and self defense. I wonder if they're getting some outside pressure to make this decision.

"Cheaper Than Dirt! is suspending online sales of firearms effective immediately. We are reviewing our policy internally, and will continue to be the leader in the outdoor industry with our full line of gear and accessories."

Cheaper Than Dirst would be the last place, and a most desperate move on my part, to purchase a handgun. That said, I see no reason to boycott a business that I am quite sure made a business decision that has nothing to do with what some may perceive as an anti-gun decision. Cries to boycott these guys, or any other business when things don't go your way is no different then what the leftwing does every time they discover a business that doesn't march to the party line. Get real folks..........

Nothing like overreacting to what is likely just a basic business decision with zero information supporting the call for action. Since the election and this tragedy, gun sales are through the roof. Its possible that they don't have the stock or manpower to move merchandise and don't want to backorder themselves into a hole. Take a deep breath, wait for some actual, verifiable information and then act if it turns out they are caving to political pressure.

I know it's tough these days not to see an anti gun conspiracy around every corner, but we need to use our heads and make sure we know what's what before burning up our energy running headfirst into brick walls. That's not sarcasm, either. As a group, we need to think then act, not vise versa or we are going to lose this fight before it really even gets going.

New business name..... Dumber Than Dirt?

If it is due too high demand then they should have said so. It looks like they are caving to the pressure from the antis.

We need to give businesses like this and the NRA more slack. It's not a retreat. We have all been keeping our heads down in the wake of this tragedy. We are letting the families grieve, and for the news to cool down. If we come back after the tragedy with sound discussion, this will pass.

With the money that has been generated by the gun industry since 2008, and the growing numbers of NRA members, we will be ok. It doesn't mean were not in for a fight. However, logic, as well as the past ban, is on our side. We have to press that the last ban did NOTHING to stop violence.

I am siding with TimboKhan on this one until really more info. is released as to their reason then it's hard to justify IMO really boycotting them for this. Many companies may start to look at themselves and evaluate "The Way" they do business. Many companies have already stopped selling directly to the public and go with a distributer for instance, and as long as they are still selling to the public without the liability than I see no fault there.

Whenever I pull up to a place that has a "closed" sign up....I go to the next one down the road.....I support any company that does whatever the hell they choose to do.

Do you know why they suspended sales?
What policies have they changed?

By the way, a lil inside info for ya, don't tell nobody but some of us have already been boycotting CTD for years. :p

I got this response.

Cheaper Than Dirt! has temporarily suspended online sales of firearms.

As a long time supporter of the Second Amendment, Cheaper Than Dirt! will continue to promote the safe and responsible use of firearms by law abiding customers. During this temporary suspension, we will review our policies and promotions.

Begone with your pesky facts and sensible statements!

Brownells doesn't sell firearms... Boycott them too!

If CTG doesn't want to be sell firearms online, that's entirely up to them. Whats the issue? There are plenty of vendors to choose from, and they may have a very legitimate reason to get out of that business.

VICTORIA'S SECRET DOESN'T SELL........

oh, wait

I was there today. I have never seen it half as busy. The place was absolutely packed They had 9 AR15's left, no AK's and 2 M1's. I do know exactly why they stopped selling online. But I would guess inventory had something to do with it.

On a side note, that is one of the few gun stores I actually enjoy visiting. They could not be nicer folks.

Some of you jump to conclusions just like the anti folks do. Take a breath. :banghead:

This is from the Cheaper Than Dirt Facebook page. If you pull up a gun on their website it states that they no longer sell firearms.
