Simply put, the whole gun-control movement has run its course. It started really moving under Regan ('86 MG Ban), gained momentum through the Bush I years, Peaked in 1994 under Clinton's term, and receded back into anonymity by the time Bush II took over.
Successful politicians are like a bunch of surfers, they will ride whatever wave that is coming their way. Pro-gun control in '94 anti-gun control in '04. Whole shebang is just a massive popularity contest, after all.
Now, after all the old timers gave away our rights to defend ourselves (If you are over 40, its YOUR fault that gun rights are in the state that they are. YOU handed them over and patted yourself on the back over crime control.), the newer, more sensible generation (see: people under 30), are taking them back while rekindling the spirit of freedom, independence, and self-reliance, that many children of the 80's never knew.
If anything, we should cheer on blue dog Democrats, and ANY AND EVERYONE that supports and works towards our right to keep and bear arms. Regardless of their political leanings. A right restored is a right restored, regardless if its by your favorite blue or red debate team.
