Brands that you steer clear of?

Easier to list what I WILL carry.

I carry only four pistols (Not all at the same time):

Glock 17
Colt Series 70 Reproduction
Colt WWI Reproduction
Kimber Warrior

I trust my life, my wife's life and my daughter's life to these pistols. I guess I have great trust in them.

Edited to add: In re-reading some previous posts, and some that follow this post, I edited to add the fact that I carry ONLY those 1911s that are series "1" or "70", with internal extractor. I saw too many problems of people having to replace the "external extractors" because they were cut to improper angle, etc. I can't figure out why Glock and SA never had this problem. I also see no need for a firing pin block when, even if the hammer is at rest position, can not cause accidental misfire. That only occurs with improper firing pin lengths. How ironic that the Glock is everything the opposite of my 1911s, yet equally reliable...even if it is Tupper Ware.

What I steer clear of?
1. Beretta 92/96. They have never impressed me, and I do not care for the slide mount safety.
2. H&K. Tupperware with a manual safety. For this you pay around $250 more than Glock. The USP.45F and USP.40c I traded for, did absolutely nothing better than Glock. H&K CS is the straw that breaks the camel's back
3. All the cheap little semiauto's
4. Para's. I brifely owned a 7.45. I did not impress me.
5. Kimber series II. The TLE II I owned was junk.(I have a Series 1 Royal that is very reliable).
6. Sig's. I just do not like the grip on the P229 and P220. I do however like the P226 9mm.
7. S&W semi-auto's and 629's. The 625 and 686 are good.

Pistol's I stand by.
1. Glock. I own four of them. I use the for IDPA, USPSA and GSSF. They have been nothting but reliable.
2. Ruger Revolvers. I LOVE the .44mag Redhawk 5.5. Accurate, reliable, and a dang fine close deer hunting revolver. I also really like the GP100.
3. Les Baer 1911's. I own a Premier II and a 5" Master that are nothing but deadnut accurate and reliable. The Premier II is used for CCW if that tells you anything on how much I trust them.

Damn...are we twins separated at birth?!? +1:D

S&W semi-autos - I had a 915 once, never again. I like their revolvers though

Glock - Just don't like the feel of polymer and the triggers make me nervous

Pot metal (Jennings, Lorcin, Bryco, etc) - need I say more

Ruger semi-autos - for all the reasons everyone else stated

Taurus - why trust your life to a crap shoot when a few dollars more buys a high quality gun

High dollar 1911's (Ed Brown, Les Baer, some Kimbers, etc) - just not worth paying well over $1K for a handgun, when I could spend $500 - $600 and get a decent trigger job.

Wow, so many negative nancys out there. Some people deny the reliability of Mil-Spec guns like Sig and Baretta, thats amazing. And for those who don't like the way a grip feels, I have it on very good authority that YOU CAN GET GRIPS FOR ANY GUN EVER MADE! Me personally, I love guns, they are fun to play with, even cheap ones. I'm not going to war with a Jennings auto or a Hipoint but for 80 bucks I'll shoot some cans with it. Wilson Combat is fantastic, but don't compare a Kia to a Rolls Royce. You get what you pay for 99% of the time.

It is my personal philosophy that there is a massive liability in producing an item that controls a violent explosion and blasts a projectile at 1300 fps out of your hand. Therefore any manufacture out there would have to be a complete retard to market a crap gun regardless of the price.

300 dollar 45's usually have sloppy slides and heavy trigger pulls.
90 dollar .25 autos usually hate most ammo and jam when you don't clean them.

It's a tool, nice tool's cost money.

I LOVE MY SIG 229!!!! I get pissed when people insult my service weapon, I trust my life to it every day and I wouldn't pick it up if I didn't believe it would work every single time. Sorry for the vent, it is common sense though.

Wow, this thread's been around awhile!

My will not buy or own list:

1. Any Taurus. Fool me once, shame on you...

2. Any "officer" sized 1911.

3. Any gun with an internal key lock.

My swear by it list:

1. Any one of my BHP's.

2. My Smith 649.

3. My Glock 17.

-----I'm the one who said I did not like the P229. It's a personal opinion. It is not going to change. I love Les Baer 1911's. I have found them to be highly accurate, and 100% reliable with ball and HP's. Pilot said he thought they were a waste of money. His opinion, and that's fine. The World would be boring indeed if we all liked the same thing's.
If someone saying they do not like, what happens to be "your" favorite weapon upset's you. Well... You have ALOT of growing up to do.--------

Avoid = Keltec

Kimber=overpriced

Glock=ugly, who DOESNT have one, but reliable.

Love my Browning 22lr handgun.

little but very reliable and puurty

I am shocked!!! What do you guys use, Rocks? I can't believe all the Glock knockers here. Mine has never failed me, in fact it is one of the most versital pieces I have ever used. Paper weight, improptu club, even used it once to open a beer bottle. For 600 dollars what do you expect?!

Crown City is on my short list that I would rather throw rocks then own. There are brands that I don’t own so therefore won’t comment on other than I exercised my option not to own.

All of my center fire semi automatic pistols are either 45ACP or 9mm Luger. I’ve found the Smith&Wesson, Colt, Springfield and Glock products that I own to be reliable.

I am somewhat bemused by the negative comments on the Glock trigger system.

As for revolvers I tend to favor the Smith&Wesson but not the current production with the internal lock and frame mounted firing pin.

and it's not particularly powerful or accurate.

Not particularly powerful? Barrel length aside, it's the cartridge and not the gun that is the source of "power." GLOCK offers guns from 9mm all the way up to .45 and 10mm.

I won't even TOUCH:

1) Glocks
2) H&K
3) Beretta
4) Ruger
5) Taurus
6) Springfield armory
7) Para Ordinance
8) Llama
9) IMI
10) Thompson Center
11) CZ

21) Savage
22) Tangfolio
23) EAA

All pieces of S**T.
They all jam every other round.
None of them fit my hand.
They all have SAFETIES!!!1111

Get real people.

Almost everyone bashed the Llama's!
I've got 2.....One is a .380, bought it in 1993 have fired about 10,000 rounds
thru it all hardball and HP's never had a single problem to feed or eject.
The only problem I had was the recoil.......Made new grips that fit me and
now nomore problem.

Second Llama is a Max I L/F in .45acp, bought it in 1996 feeds any any all ammo I can give it.
fired about 8,000 rounds thru it with out a problem.
I carry both for ccw and am real happy with both!

My $.02 worth

There was this little pistol a friend of mine had once, semi-auto in .25ACP, some ugly, matte finished, seven shot job. It would jam whenever there was peanut butter and bread, and would hit the target every time, unless that target was underneath your sights and farther away than ten feet.

I don't know who made it, but I wouldn't buy anything they made again. :scrutiny:

Those guys with long lists of manufacturers you won't buy from, who will you buy from?

I guess I haven't had enough experiences with firearms manufacturers to have been burned by them yet. I avoid certain phone companies and rental property groups. Come to think of it, I think I had to have someone talk me down from using firearms on aforementioned groups. (*JOKING*)

Norinco??? (Just trying to guess what you do use.:p )

i dont use handgusn of any type. To unreliable. and they RUN OUT OF AMMO! I dont even use kives; they can BEND, RUST, and go DULL. Far to unreliabel for my exacting demands.

The only weapon that i deem fit for home defence is an alluminum bat. :neener:

It doesn't rust, it doesn't run out of ammo, and it never jams, and one well placed shot will drop even the biggest, meanest, body armored thug around!

P.S: I can only hope this make you all see how REDICULOUS your all being.

*BOO-HOO-HOO, Such-and-Such gun company sucks because there guns aren't custom fit for my hand!*

or

*WAAAAAAAAH, I hate Such-and-Such gun company because my Brothers friends uncles cousin had a likely ammo related problem with one of their guns!*

Ya' know what? if youd just buy a gun and SHOOT WITH IT, you get used to the ergonomics, and you learn what kinds of ammo it does and doesnt like. ;)

The ONLY Guns that should be avoided are ones from companies that have ahistory of making crappy guns. Companies such as Jennings and Sundance.

The HELLARIOUS thing is that most of you are avoiding the entire product lines of whole companies due to trivial things like ergonomics and APPEARENCE of all things.

Strange Ergonomics can be adapted to.

Heavy trigers can be partialy abated with a $5 polishing kit and an hour of your time.

Your all entitled to your oppinoins but frankly, your opinoins are silly. :D

Is there a particular brand of aluminum bat you could recommend for me? I've heard that Rawlings bats are unreliable and Eastons are prone to jamming.

:neener:

I expect that getting a lemon is a matter of luck. Every manufacturer has them, some more than others. So far I have been lucky with most of my firearms being defect-free, including my Kimber, and unlucky with a few. What mattered to me is not that I might have a problem with a purchase, but what a company does about it if the inevitable happens.

I had a minor problem with a Smith and Wesson. Smith and Wesson promptly took care of it. I had an NAA Guardian-nothing wrong with the pistol but needed some things from them. NAA was great to work with. I would not hesitate to buy products from either of them again.

I had a POS Kahr P9. Kahr not only failed to fix the POS, they lied to me and never paid for the shipping they promised to cover. I would not have spent 20% of the total cost of the gun to send it to them if I knew they wouldn't cover the shipping and wouldn't fix the multiple problems with their expensive beta-test prototype.:fire:

I am sure there are Kahrs that are fine pistols. I am sure they have even worked out some of their issues with the polymer guns. But I won't buy anything from them after the way I was treated.

Kahr is at present my entire list of firearm manufacturers I refuse to do business with.

I avoid CZ...not because of quality, I think they are a damned fine pistol...the trigger in DA is just too long a reach for an otherwise superbly ergonomic pistol, and I do not feel all warm and fuzzy about carrying this particular design cocked & locked.

Smith & Wesson autos...owned a few, never cared for the trigger.

Sig...trigger reset takes too long for fast double taps...though I own a couple, I just don't carry them for that reason.

Beretta 92 series. Good gun...same issue as the CZ. Trigger reach is too long.

All of the pot-metal junkers...duh.

What I like...

Glock....NEVER had one fail. Not once, never, can't make any of the nine models I currently own not go bang.

Browning Hi Power...inspired by God himself.

Colt, yes real no jive Colt 1911's. I am down to three of them now. An old National Match .45, a Series 70 Combat Commander in satin nickel, and a tricked out, slicked up Series 70 that was done by Wilson, from my own gun back in 1991, when his shop still did good work. I have sold all my clones...though I have ordered a Smith & Wesson scandium in Commander length. We shall see...

What I carry: 99.9% of the time now it is my Glock 38 in .45GAP.

Oh yeah...and I never feel undergunned when packing a Smith & Wesson K-Frame magnum. You pick the model & barrel length...I probably have one, or two, or several...lol.

I DO agree with you on Kahr. Some of their guns are ok, butr i wont do buisness with them

But then again i don't do buisness with ANY OTHER crazed cult, so I dont realy see a need to start. The Moon Unification church will never see a dime of my money.

just curious, why all the taurus bashers? their old stuff may have been bad, but iv only had experience with the new stuff, and the fit and finish on their guns is every bit as good as other reliable manufacturors. they also have the best return and repair policies around. If you do have something wrong with youtr pistol (happens with all brands), its not like they wont fix it for FREE.
