Brands that you steer clear of?

I've got a bunch of Mosin-Nagants (M44, M91/30, M91/59) that are all defect-free. Kinda strange considering that Russian QC doesn't have all that stellar of a reputation.

I steer clear of FN and Ruger for political reasons. I steer clear of Taurus for political reasons and because I've had a bad experience with my Taurus 605. I'm not inclined to purchase S&W autos because they just feel cheap to me. Ditto for the Springfield XD.

I wouldn't hesitate to purchase a Glock, Kahr, or Sig. I've had nothing but good experiences with them.

I have a glock 39, 45 gap, great pistol. I have a kel tec p3at, 380, that, because of it's size, I have with me all the time, never a failure. I had a star pd, 45acp that would shoot any type ammo without a hitch. Should never have sold it. I've owned 2 raven 25acp pistols that would never fail even though they were cheap pot metal pistols. I'm not a pistol freak, I'm a .22 rifle freak, so a pistol to me is a tool. A tool that I want to work when I need it. I don't care what brand as long as it works and I can keep it with me, but I do listen to what pistol freaks have to say before I buy one.

geeeez I guess there is no one to buy from.

I have to say the single most reliable two pistols i own are a jennings 22 and a sigma from S&W, DO I like them, no, but load them up and they WILL go bang everytime you pull the trigger.

opinion polls such as this are like butt holes, everybody has one, and they all stink. why post such slander? just get over it, some of us like colts and llama's, some of us like Brownings and astras

All of them except Colt, Ruger and S&W

Fit, finish, and trigger pull on all the others eliminated them from my consideration. Glock looks ok but IMHO its design seems like a gimmick.

Anything imported BY EAA

Why, because i bought a couple of their products, namely saiga, and Izmash, and they stopped selling them and worse yet,

They no longer carry parts or do repairs.

PLEASE do you rself a favor IF EAA imports it

DO NOT BUY IT.

CZ, merely because I'm so sick of all these fanboys pimping the CZs on every thread possible. :p j/k

I'll give anything a try, I judge weapons like people, on a case by case basis.

I just curious, why all the taurus bashers? their old stuff may have been bad, but iv only had experience with the new stuff, and the fit and finish on their guns is every bit as good as other reliable manufacturors. they also have the best return and repair policies around. If you do have something wrong with youtr pistol (happens with all brands), its not like they wont fix it for FREE.

I bought a new Model 85 in 1993 that failed after less than 100 rounds. The company treated me just fine, but I completely lost confidence in the pistol after that. As soon as the warranty work was done I sold it and bought a J-frame.

Bad Guns

I had a Hardball Longslide that I would probably never own again in 4 lifetimes.

But, I can't seem to fathom why some of you truly dislike the Sigs. I have owned and currently own a Sig 220 .45 and it is probably the best handgun I have ever owned. Accuracy, recoil, how it feels, is first rate. I have read in here people have had issues with the Sig 220 jamming. I have never had it jam once. My Glock 19 has jammed quite a bit depending on the ammo brand I use.

Taurus because of their partnership with the New Jersey Institute of Technology (and New Jersey politicians) concerning "smart guns".

No Ruger Semi-Autos, other than the .22s'
No Colt DA revolvers' of recent manufacture
No AMT anything
No S&W double action autos', except the model 39
No Llama
None of the pot metal crap, Lorcin, Raven, Hi-Point, etc.
Nothing by Para-Ordinance, oh the stories I could tell!
No American made Walther TPHs'
I have heard of Glocks with problems and even seen a few but I have never been stuck, all of mine run like Clocks. Sig has never let me down. Kimber has been worth the price for me as well as the S&W 1911. No complaints on Kahr, actually high praise for the T9. German Walthers, Belgium Brownings, and older S&W revolvers are all winners for me.

I'm happy to report that I own guns made by most of the companies that most of these folks profess to loathe, and I'm very satisfied with them, thank you very much.:p Hell, I even have a Llama and a Jennings that work.

But, I do have a few standards. I will only list those guns that I've actually held or shot, though.

Hi-Point
Lorcin
Raven
Davis
Glock...I'm sorry, it may be an engineering marvel, but that thing feels and looks like something the dog ate
H&K...another overpriced European ugly stick
Sig...kinda sorta, much like the opinion most people seem to have of Ruger
Charles Daly
AMT

I avoid ANY company that charges at or over 1000.00 dollars for a 1911. I don't care how good the guns may or may not be, but it is my closely held belief that they just aren't worth that much. Ummm.... lets see.... There are brands I am not interested in, and again, it is just personal preference as opposed to me thinking they are crappy guns. SIG, Glock, and EAA are the top three, Walther to a lesser extent, S&W autos although I generally like the Revos and of all the currently offered 1911's, I would probably go with the S&W version if I were to choose one at all. Oh, and Colt because I believe Colt more or less sold out and left behind an extremely loyal group of consumers.

Not to rile anyone up, but how did the pistol work after the service? I mean, whatever man, if you don't like Taurus, I don't care, but they treated you good and ostensibly fixed the gun, so why the lost confidence? Now, granted, I am a well known Taurus defender, and I think they make solid, reasonably priced guns that lose nothing in comparison to thier rivals. I only say all that so that whoever answers this will know my bias, and its not a question meant to enflame so much as its just honest curiosity. By the way, I am a major Ruger fan too....

Brand's I will NEVER....

HK.

You're effin' retarded. If you think HK's are bad, you've banged your head awefully hard on something. HK: No Compromise. :D

What I steer clear of?

2. H&K. Tupperware with a manual safety. For this you pay around $250 more than Glock. The USP.45F and USP.40c I traded for, did absolutely nothing better than Glock. H&K CS is the straw that breaks the camel's back

You've also fallen out of your rocker old man. The only complaint I could make is: HK CS? *** is that? lol :p

Here's a quote by GRD that really sums up what the HK's are about:

GRD said:
Crapola. My USP40 must have 4 or 5 thousand through it at least and it's the most reliable handgun I've ever used or even heard of. I think I've had two failures in the whole time I've owned it and both were very obviously ammo-induced. And that with me putting off cleaning it like I was going to the dentist.

The USP quietly lives up to the reliability that the Glock claims.

The only weak point in the design I know of is that they have a tendency to break firing pins if dry fired extensively without a snap cap in place.

its not the maufacturererererer.......

I have had over the years alot of guns by different brands. I lived in Utah, VERY gun friendly BTW, when my collection was the biggest.

The only gun "Brand" I would avoid today is Llama...I had 2 and both had problems...and I had 2 friends that both had problems with theirs. So, thats enough for me....

The only guns I have now are Bersa 380..XD9..Colt 1911(old and stock)..1903 S&W 32long revolver.......

The Bersa and XD are my carry guns....GREAT BUYS AND UTTERLY RELIABLE:)

Rugers (except the single action revolvers and 22 autopistols)

Glocks (the grip angle is all wrong if you're a 1911 shooter)

Auto Ordinance (heard too many bad stories)

Post 1964 Winchesters (cheaply made crap...pre-64s rule!)

Smith & Wesson semi-autos (their revolvers are another story)

Thats about it.

Since I had two models from Taurus break on me, I avoid that brand. Taurus did replace both guns but I don't trust them,

John

1.) Hi-Point

2.) Hi-Point

3.) Hi-Point

... did I mention, stay away from Hi-Point?

btw, my auto-ordnance never fails - although I heard less than wonderful things about their pre-Kahr takeover models.

in no particular order-

Intertec / Tec 9
Hi-Point
RG
Raven
Davis
Lorcin
Bryco

as a side note- the only Jennings i've actually fired, a J-22, worked very well. also, the only Llama i've ever fired, a smallish .380, fed and fired without missing a beat

you can probably find a good (or bad) example of most any firearm ever made. some, however, clearly lean more to one extreme than the other ;)
