Was removing my Millet base on my 629 today and noticed two of the screws turned freely - though they had worked loose , but they had actually broken in two! Only the middle screw was still intact. Good thing I removed the base before the middle screw broke next time at the range! Would have been hell to have the whole base/ring/scope assembly come flying at me!

Have heard of screws being sheared off and such on mag revolvers - thought most of it was BS - guess not!

That is a lot of shock and stress being transmitted thru seemingly small screws. Couple that with the weight and mass of scopes sitting high off the barrel and it's amazing that they do the job that's asked of them. First the threads are stressed when the screw is torqued in place. Then it receives the shock of each firing of the handgun. That's a tough life!
