when working up a ladder on a new bullet/powder combination what weight spacing do you use between rungs? For instance I am currently working up a 69gr SMK load with h335 for my 1/9 twist gas gun and have been using .5gr spacing. whatcha think?

The closer you move up to max the closer the spacing should be. My opinion is that .5 would be fine if you are still near the middle of your load data. As you near max levels I would reduce the spacing to .2 gr.

As Docendo stated - Rifle .5 and then .2 when you see the chrony readings getting closer to max.

For pistol .1 no matter what.

I'm sure others may do it differently.

It depends on what the load is for... and which cartridge. I would (I do...) make .3grn ladders with a small case like 5.56mm, but initially start with .5grn with something like .308, then work it down.

I like round numbers, so when I'm working up pistol loads it's steps of .5grn, to wind up with something like 8.5grn or 9.0grn as an established charge weight, etc. The only caveat to that is when I'm working with a powder like W296 or even TiteGroup, where there isn't a lot of wiggle room.

I divide the charge range by 10 with 22 extras loaded above max.
Often times I don't shoot the to end loads. But certain guns run loose chambers or long throats.
