Bulk ammo purchase

Hello all-- I also posted at AR15.com, but that is my other favorite board.

I work for a small federal organization (NRC), and am in need of finding where I can purchase a bulk of ammo in a relatively short amount of time (prior to mid-July). It needs to be from an organization which can accept a purchase order (easy to do if they already accept from other vendors).

Specifically, we are hosting a firearms course, and need the following approximate amount of ammo:
Handgun:
9mm - 3900
.40 S&W - 2200
.357 mag - 1500
.45 ACP - 4200

Rifle:
7.62x39 - 4800
.223 - 8400
.308 - 2000
.50 BMG - 90

Shotgun - 150 shells of #8, 150 shells of 00 buck

That should do it!

Any and all help is greatly appreciated, from a fellow enthusiast.

The only problem with this course is I won't get to keep the brass.

By the way, those numbers aren't exactly "in bulk" the way some of us buy.

for everything but the .50, it might be easiest to see if the local walmart store manager can add on a special order to his weekly truck... that way you dont have to pay any shipping, youll have to pay tax but that would be less than the shipping i am sure... i know walmarts around here do that for some of the local shooting clubs

I know it's a little low, but I thought you might have somewhat of an idea.... BTW, that website is great! They may have all we need. Of course, I need to get three bids.

As for the walmart, we have one right next to our building, but they won't handle orders that size. Great idea, though.

Whatever you do, don't buy Wolf .308 Win from Cabela's. I ordered bulk in January. I'm still waiting.

Yeah, I was talking to FN herstal rep at the 2008 SHOT show, and was asking which non-military groups purchase those super nice/light SAW full auto machine guns, and they said agencies that does securities for sensitive facilities, such as nuclear plants purchase a lot of them....

Those SAW's were so light and nice.....drool....

I suggest that you contact GT Distributors. They are a police supply with retail locations in Austin TX and Atlanta GA. I doubt if they are going to have the 7.62x39 or the .50 BMG.

Another option would be Cheaper Than Dirt in Fort Worth TX. I think they still sell most calibers of ammunition.

Finally, for purchases that large, you might contact Remington or Federal or XXXX direct. For the amounts you are wanting to purchase, you should be able to get pallets delivered direct from the manufacturer.

Well, I can tell you we don't have any of those.

We're actually contracting with another agency to do this training. Unfortunately, they can't spare this type of ammo from their stockroom.

If you are interested in that large of an order, you should get a wholesale price (or big discount). I would contact several of the online stores and compare prices.

To be honest, some of ammoman's prices are higher than Sportsmansguide. $15 cheaper for .45 for example.

Generally, a retailer like this has a department that handles group sales and offers bulk discounts. I would call on Monday (rather than just emailing). When I worked at an online retailer we had a group sales department.

The owners of the reactors sites ("licensees") are responsible for their protection. They can either use their own home-grown force or a contracted force such as Wackenhut. Either way, they are still responsible for what happens, so it behooves them to have a quality force.

It is definitely NOT the federal protective service.

I'll give Sportsmansguide a call on Monday. However, the main problem I'm running into is the availability of this amount. For example, we have a local place called Sportsmans Warehouse. They said they could get the ammo, but they are not first priority in the distributers list. So, they may not be able to get the quantity.

Of course you might have trouble finding that quantity on-hand locally but it's really not THAT much. I'm sure some of us buy that much in a year. Ammoman.com sold 2,000,000 rounds last week and I bought 2,000-3,000 last month. Local police departments around here set up deals with a local gun store and they probably buy a lot more ammunition than you are...Recently, the local mom and pop place ordered about 20,000 rounds Federal .223 for the cops here.

You might have trouble getting a bulk discount since each caliber you need only a few thousand rounds of - I mean, you need less than 2 cases of most of this stuff.

Actually, I did a search for the GSA suppliers, but only found one. They wanted $0.66/round for 9mm!

And this was nothing special 9mm.

So, that was out. Although some government agencies feel they have carte blanche to pay this much, I cannot with a clean conscience, especially when there are other means available.

Now, I'm not concerned with a bulk discount, unless I can. We have a mission, and it has to be done.

I'll begin making phone calls on Monday to some of these leads.

yeah i just was trying to connect what lawrence livermore does with other "nuclear facilities" but the plants are privately owned or investor held, whatever.

LE Distributors have run dry on a lot of ammo in the last year. They have to get it from regular commercial vendors also.
