I'd like to buy a gun to thumb my nose at the current administration before they institute their ban. But I live in NY. I guess I need a Clinton ban gun that would preempt the Obama ban.

Don't Waste Your Money

Why waste your money? If you're not willing to stand up to the local government infringements on our gun rights by their regulations by buying a pre-ban what makes you think you will stand up to a federal law. Buy yourself an nice hunting rifle.

Pre-ban can be applied to either / or both, weapons and magazines that were banned during the dark days of gun ownership. Seeing as you live in New York you might have more of a mountain to climb. A good hunting rifle or good pump shotgun are sound investiments. I think those dark days are knocking at our collective door again. However, my wife and I own three ARs at current. IF you want one and IF you can legally own one, I would do it. Then again, I'm bias! Hahaha! Good luck! :)

What if a ban is passed and it states all those evil rifles are illegal, no grandfathering of previously made rifles? It sounds unthinkable but it was something Obama has voted for in Illinois. Are you willing to risk that money on something you may be told to destroy? Buy the rifle because you want one and want to enjoy it. If you are buying out of fear why buy at all? It must not be something you want that bad, only if you are told you can't have it.

i hate reading that.

what are the odds of something that severe becoming a reality?

i think (hopefully) if we see another ban it will be similar, or a variant, to what we had with clinton, which honestly didnt really change anything for me.

i bought my first ar15, a colt 6700c match target rifle, during the clinton ban. i then walked about 25 feet to another table and bought some 30 round mags for it.

the biggest effect it had on my first ar was it didnt have a bayonet lug, and a pinned on compensator instead of a thread on flash hider. other than that it didnt really effect my ar purchase or activities in the least.

The difference is: The next ban will NOT have an expiration date.

At this time, I'm not concerned about a ban. 65 dems in congress just signed a letter to AG Holder making sure he understands that he doesn't have the votes. I sent a thank you letter to Utah's lone dem for his signature. They would LOVE to start banning, but they know they don't have the votes.

Be careful about your faith in those votes. Comprimise is what brought the end to FA in the 80's and the 1st AWB. The media and anti gun lobby has been conspicuously quiet in wake of the recent tragedys and I am afraid an attack is imminent.

You hate reading it less than I hated typing it.

What are the odds that something like that happens? Don't know. What I do know is that Obama did vote for it in Illinois and it did pass the vote. The bill was short and to the point. Anything evil, handgun or rifle, was illegal and possession of such an item was a felony. You could turn them in or destroy them yourself but if found with one you go to club fed. The bill didn't make it past the courts and was dismissed but none the less it was something Obama signed.

Pure politics. If someone wants to start a truly rifle-oriented thread, please do.
