Thanks ScottsGT. I will give that a try. I initially used a Sharpie marker, but it didn't stay on very long.

Update: Can't get the blue to "take". I'm using Brownells OXPHO-BLUE. The bottle is about 6 or 7 years old.
Wondering if cold blue has a shelf life.

CMP does now have Garands online, if anyone is still looking. Including some excellent grade sniper rifles, apparently, although at $3500 I had to regretfully decline :D

This is an update to post #73 in this thread.

Garand Guy came through and has mailed me a small refund ($50) that I had requested as compensation for the damaged finished on my Super Premium.

Instead of sending the rifle back and risking loss or damage, I thought it would be cheaper and easier if Tony just gave me some money to compensate for the chips and he agreed.

As far as his earlier lack of response, he indicated he's been having e-mail problems. I have no way to know if that's the case, so I'll leave it at that.

I would say if you can get through to him, he does stand behind his rifles.

Yes, I have noticed if it gets old, it won't work as good. Is it still clear blue in the bottle, or has it turned dark, almost black?

Walmart carries Birchwood Casey cold blue. I used it on a parkerized AKM part that I had cut. Cleaned the spot with alcohol, applied the cold blue with a q-tip. It's not a PERFECT match, but for such a small area, you barely notice and it sure beats rust. So yeah, head over to Walmart if yours has a decent gun section.

The OXPHO is still light blue, but there is some solid gunk on the bottom that doesn't want to dissolve. I'll run down to Walmart and and get some Birchwood Casey to try as strat81 suggested since that'll be faster than ordering more blue from Brownells. Thanks for the help folks. I'll eventually get the receiver reparked, but for now a touch up should be good enough.
