Hey everyone,
thanks to all of your inputs, I decided that my next, and probably last gun for a while will be a glock 19, it will be my concealed carry gun. However, I wanted to get your opinion on where I should purchase it. I am currently in Austin, TX, the cheapest price I've found on a glock 19 is $530, I decided to buy new because the cheapest used is 350, with taxes and spending another 75-90 for magazines I might as well just buy a new glock since I plan on having it for a very long time. Now, 530 with taxes comes out to about 574 dollars. I see that I can get it at buds for about 494, with a $25 FFL fee it comes to only 523 dollars, I don't have a lot of money to spend so 10% is a pretty big difference to me. My question for you guys then is this: Is $494 a good price for a brand new glock 19? Or could I find it cheaper somewhere else?

thanks

I actually did not know that, I've never bought a gun online before. Is the transfer fee different from the FFL transfer fee? Or is that what you are talking about? I was assuming online is cheaper because no taxes on an already cheaper gun.

530 is about the price you will pay new from a LGS these days. THey may be able to be talked down to 509 plus tax who knows.

If you can you could try find a used and see if you cant maybe snag a few extra mags in the deal as well.

You live in a pretty gun heavy area so you could do a local search on gunbroker and buy one there then pick it up locally so you dont have to pay a transfer. They are a very common gun so it should not be hard to find one used.

cool, I haven't thought about gunbroker. Forgive me but I don't have a lot of experience in the field, I assume you are talking about gunbroker.com? And how do I go about finding a local seller there?

If your transferring local FFL is a gun store, pawn shop, etc., they are still likely to charge you sales tax on top of the gun and transfer fee. I never bought from Bud's, but I have bought through Davidsons/Gallery of Guns and the sales tax is still added.

When possible, I recommend to buy from a local dealer*. One reason is you get to see the gun and check it out before you decide to pay for it.

*Academy doesn't really count, though. They just sell you the gun and tell you to contact the manufacturer if you have any problems. No local support from them, even though I do like Academy.

Go the the advanced search in gunbroker and search for the gun you want only in Texas.

I am not sure if you can narrow it down more than that or not.

You have to be registered to do the advanced search I think.

Then I guess it is a matter of clicking on the ones that look like the one you want and seeing if it is close by. That is always how I have done it in the past but that has been for Michigan and Kentucky. Texas is much bigger.

Which is illegal.

In Texas there is no sales tax charged on a firearm purchased out of state, nor is sales tax charged on the transfer fee itself.

If you have a Texas dealer order a firearm for you, he would be required to charge sales tax.

$530 is waaaaaaay to much to pay for a NIB Glock.

In the last month the lowest price I've seen for NIB Glock 19's was $434 at the Big Town show in Mesquite.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Gallery of Guns search for a local dealer? That would be why they add on the sales tax. I know for a fact that a gun ordered online in Texas from Bud's does not have any sales tax on it because I just did it last week. Bud's is out of Kentucky and does not have a Texas presence, so no sales tax. They also include shipping (usually) in the price and it is second day air. However, they do not do a good job of advertising the price as a cash price and you have to pay an extra 3% for credit. The way around that (for the patient) is to hold it with a card and mail them a check. That way you get the cash price, but it takes longer to get to you because they will not process it until the check clears.
As far as a Glock, try to get LEO pricing if you can or know someone that can and can legally transfer it to you. Check out your local laws before trying that of course.

Edit- according to their website http://www.galleryofguns.com/Genie/instructions.aspx they utilize their Gun Genie service to find a dealer near you. That would explain the sales tax.

That price is quite extraordinary.

There has to be a REAL INTERESTING story to go with that event.

If you want to buy at a gun show, you might post to the state-specific forums on several gun boards, and see if you can get some intel on the going-rate for Glocks in your area.

If you find that $434 is a common price, please let us know.

I got my Glock 17 from Top Gun Supply for $499.99, G19s go for the same price. I just looked and they are currently out....but they restock regularly so keep checking. I know I've seen them around $475 in local gun stores but nothing much cheaper than that for new

Are you L.E. or military? I know that authorized Glock Distributers can sell "blue tape" guns at a steeply discounted rate. The blue tape guns are designated for LE/military sales and the factory carrying case has a blue tape sticker on it in place of the white. And they all come with three magazines instead of two. Most people aren't aware of this. Actually, when I bought my last Glock I asked the sales man about the blue tape guns and he didnt have a clue what I was talking about, I asked to speak to the boss man and he confirmed it the employee.

I bought my NIB Glock 19 with three mags for $469 after taxes and all.

i would just wait for a local gun show. they are always cheaper. i already see prices on gen3 19 going down. i guess to make way for gen4 ...... i'm still waiting for gen4 26.

Ha, you got me to walk upstairs to look at my G19's case and there is indeed baby blue tape on it. Somehow I didn't notice that..

Just got back from the LGS and the G19 in their case is $499.00. It cracks me up when I go to the gun show and people want $600.00 for a used one with tons of holster wear. :scrutiny:

thanks for the replies guys. So bkjeffrey, no I am no LE or Military, I wish I was though, there's a GT distributors in Austin that sells new glocks for 398, but it's only for LE I think. I know a Marshal here in town, but I'm not that close with him and don't know if it'll be too much to ask him to buy one and transfer it to me. And angel1216, do you really think the prices will lower? And by how much usually? I was planning on buying one in the next two weeks. Thanks

(clears throat)

I know of a few instances around here where the local peace officers have purchased blue line glocks for their buddies. It pays to be in good with at least one cop in your area I guess.

I myself just go buy my own.

if you are mil, leo, fireman, TSA etc, you can go to a Glock le dealer and get a model 19 with three magazines for $398.20

the GT in Austin (as well as the one in Georgia) sells to anyone qualified for the Glock LEO program. There is more info here: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=433908 and don't forget about the GSSF, which is also mentioned there. No sense in paying full price when you don't have to. ;)

BTW, if you're closer to San Antonio, Dury's in your place for the LEO program and they also give out a lifetime warranty on Every gun they sell. That's where I got mine. http://www.durysguns.com/general/leglock

By the time you pay whatever Bud's charges for shipping and the receiving FFL's transfer fee (typically $20 to $35), you will have just as much in it as buying locally. You will be getting an excellent CCW pistol, probably the most size-efficient (i.e., the most compact that still holds 15 rounds in its magazine) handgun on the market. I've had my own for nearly 12 years, with only night sights added.

yea bkjeffrey that's how I feel, I don't want to trouble the guy to buy me a gun, especially if there are legal ramifications attached to it. And rd2007, thanks for the information, I didn't know that about GSSF and their LEO discount pricing for members at all, I'll call them and ask if that's still good. If it is I'll definitely have to jump on that.
THe lone haranguer, I did the calculations. Buds offer 494 shipped if I pay by check. with a $25 FFL transfer fee it's still way cheaper than 530 (the cheapest price here) + another $44 in taxes. That's a 50 dollar difference, I don't have a lot of money laying around and $50 is just too big of a difference for me to swallow buying locally. Otherwise I would

Here is a complete list of those who are qualified for the Glock LEO/Military discount...Got this from Glock a few days ago...

" Sworn Law Enforcement Officers or Federal Agents, Retired Law Enforcement Officers or Retired Federal Agents with "retired" credentials, Corrections Officers, including Parole & Probation Officers, State licensed Security Companies, State licensed Security Officers, Active Military, National Guard, or Military Reserve personnel - all branches, Legitimately retired military veterans, with “retired” military I.D. Licensed Para- Medics or EMTs, Fire Fighters (including volunteers) with appropriate I.D. All TSA employees, Commercial Pilot License holders, regardless of class & Federal Flight Deck Officers, Court Judges, District Attorneys and Deputy District Attorneys, LE Academy or College students with proof of enrollment in a Criminal Justice Program."

If you don't have a participating dealer near you, you can make the proper arrangements for payment/shipping, etc thru a local FFl, and Glock will proceed to build your gun, and ship to your FFL. This however, is taking several weeks, I was told. You can choose your trigger, options being 5.5, 8, or NY1. Gun can be had in standard black or olive drab. You can select the "C" or comp version for $24.20 additional. As stated previously in this thread, the price for the fixed site G19 is $398.20 w/3 mags. Adj site model is $420.20, Glock nite site model is $455.40, and Trijicon NS model is $477.40
