I'm heading to Houston this weekend and was wondering if you all could recommend gun shops that have friendly, knowledgable people and don't charge crazy prices.

Thanks in advance!

I hate to have to ask this but it really is necessary.

What PART of Houston will you be in? Seriously, if you haven't been here before, it matters. This is a very large city, geographically.

I recommend you visit the nearest Carter Country, especially if you are on the north side of town. The Carter Country in Spring has a good selection of firearms and a very fine outdoor range. Pistol, rifle and shotgun are all welcome.

I live about 3 minutes from the Galleria, there are no good gun shops in this area. The closest one with good deals is Carter's Country on I-10 near Campbell.

$0.02

carters will probably have the best price, but
i think:
Collectors Firearms
(713) 781-4319 Web Site 3301 Fondren Rd # O
Houston, just southwest of the Galaria
has better service and 50 times as many used guns to look at.
use yahoo yellow pages and search "guns houston texas".

Drive a little farther and go to Fountain Firearms at Highway 6 and Bissonnet. THe staff is knowegeable and friendly. Not as large a selection as Carter's or Collector but MUCH better prices.

Bob

Collector's is close by, and they have an incredible selection of firearms, but they are high. Fountain firearms is about 45 min. away and they have a knowledgeable, friendly staff and reasonable prices. Then there are the gun shows at Reliant arena and George R. Brown - great selection and prices to match.:D

Great! Thanks guys/gals, you saved me a lot of time. I hate looking for a ship in a new town, too many people selling $650 Glocks out there!

Not to sound redundant, but Collectors and Fountain are the two that I frequent, with occasional visits to Carter's.

Collectors is where I go to browse. They have an amazing inventory. The prices are on the high side, but if you know what you are looking at you can find the occasional deal and they are often willing to haggle. Service ranges from good to snobby....

Fountain is pretty out of the way from where you are going to be, but they will list on average 10% lower than Collectors. They also have a pretty good selection, but the shop is rather cluttered. Service I have found to be very good.

Carter's is more of a good-old-boy hunting/outdoors shop. Service is good. Prices are somewhere between Collector's and Fountain. Selection is decent.

Are you looking for anything in particular, or just looking?

Good luck!

Edit to add: Collectors also has a web-site at: http://www.collectorsfirearms.com/

Collector's is for collectors. You need to be prepared to drop a lot of coin on a purchase, but you will get a very nice product from them. I picked up 2 38/44's and a couple of 210's and a few Dan Wesson's from them. Very nice to deal with, but expensive.

Fountain is just plain friendly helpful folks. I particularly like to work with Oren and Sloan. They did my other 210-5, the custom Baer's, several 5 screw S&W's a few springfields and CZ's and finally my Dan Wesson Razorback. Good prices, great service nice folks, small selection (compared to Collectors).

Either will treat you well.

Collector's is cool!

I grew up in Houston, live in Florida now, but whenever we visit Houston I try to visit Collector's. It's like a museum! Great selection.

Collector's and Fountains are both high as hell. I liked Fountains when their dad was running things. Carter's is excellent if you know who to deal with.

I will visit them all probably. No4Mk1 I'm just looking around and visiting them. Some people look at puppies in the window, I look at pistols!

Thanks for the advice everyone! Heading there this weekend

Thanx fellas, I'm likely heading down near Houston later this year. besdies hose mentioned already in houston, any south of the city? I'll be in Pearland. How easy are these places to get to from this area? Only been there once.

BlkHawk73, I'm not familiar with any down that way, and while not particularly "hard" to get to these from that side of town, but a bit of a drive. Well, honestly, anything is a bit of a drive in Houston.... ;) If you just want to look around at a pretty impressive array of firearms, Collectors is the place to visit.

Let me just say, been there (Bailey's), and wouldn't go too far out of my way to go there again....

nah, don't even give em that much leeway.... don't even bother with them period.

Almost forgot, Collector's carries many 1911 parts and accessories for all types of guns, that you would normally only find at a gun show or catalog.
