Buying used handguns?

I have several questions, that are somewhat related...

Does anybody happen to know of any FFL's in the Dallas/Fort Worth area (preferably Tarrant County) that they would recommend?

Do gunshop owners take offense to being asked to do FFL transfers? Or are they usually pretty willing to do this for you? I've just been wondering if they might be offended that you're buying from someone else, rather than buying from them, and just using them as a middleman...

Lastly, I've been looking online at CDNN's catalog, at the used police trade-in Sigs and Glocks. When it comes to buying one from them, sometimes it offers an option for "hand select" for an additional fee. What exactly does this mean?

I live in Iowa

so can't answer about FFLs in Texas. However, I am just buying my first gun from out of state and need an FFL. My impression from the local shop that is doing the transfer is that they are glad to have my business. They charge $30 and from what a store employee has said to me I am inferring that transfers are a big part of their business. Iowa does not have a giant population so gun and accessory sales may not carry an independent gun store without some other income like gunsmithing or doing transfers. Another shop I go to does them also and charges $25.

Here is what I think about you worrying they will be offended. To me guns, especially used ones, are like used books and used cars. There are so many out there of all kinds and conditions that no dealer expects you to find exactly what you want in his local shop. Thus, he may be glad to get you in the door and do an FFL transfer because....you might see a gun you want eventually in his store, you may buy some ammo or accessories from him sometime or, if he is a gunsmith, he may get your gunsmith business. Plus he builds goodwill by doing it and he hopes that word-of-mouth from you will bring in more business.

I know a gun shop owner in Iowa who told me he does not like to bother with them because it is not worth the $30 he charges for the paperwork. So, each dealer is different. I say, get a feel for what the attitude of the person behind the counter is about doing transfers.

Whereabouts in Iowa do you live? I have lots of family in the Dubuque area, as thats where my parents grew up.

I live in the Iowa City area about 90 miles SE of Dubuque. If you come to Iowa and want to shoot together get ahold of me through this website and maybe we can work something out. I know a really neat range that is about half-way between Dubuque and where I live. However, I am retired and would be glad to drive to Dubuque for shooting as long as it is on a weekday.

One thing about CDNN and local gun shops.

I purchased a Beretta 92FS from CDNN. I gave them the info re my local FFL and CDNN said my guy was already on file so no problem.

I called my local guy and told him the gun was on the way so I'd be paying him my standard transfer fee. My guy then said that CDNN is their regular supplier so since they could have done the deal for the gun themselves, they would have to charge me an extra $40.

I called CDNN and cancelled the sale. Before you do the deal, make sure your local FFL isn't going to penalize you simply because they happen to already be doing business with CDNN.

on gunsamerica or gun brokers they have a sight that you put in your zip code and they will tell you an ffl dealer in your area ,can't look it up right now im at work and i can't get on there sites they block things like that,hope this helps ,if not i can go on and look when i get home
