I`ve been reading a lot of the posts about C & R permit/licences, What are the advanteges if any other than collecting old firearms , any discounts with them . If the guns are not operable ,are they just wall hangers? If the were able to fire ,then would they have to be registered as any fire arm , a curious mind wants to know .

1) Advantages: delivery to your door, you pay the same prices as your local gun store (cheaper), discounts from some retailers (Brownells, Midway USA among them).
2) The guns are real, operating firearms. The same ones used in WW1, WW2, whenever. No replicas or deactivated ones here. As a matter of fact, if it has been altered from military specs, it is no longer a C&R gun.
3) I don't know NY law on this one, but in MO we have no long gun registration (our permit to purchase is back door handgun registrations, and C&R handguns are exempt).

Better check with an attorney or someone with knowledge of the NY law, but I think a NY C&R licensee cannot legally have a handgun shipped into the state. It has to go to a FFL dealer. AFAIK, rifles are OK.

C&R guns are not "wall-hangers". You can buy any gun that is 50 years or older automatically with your 03 FFL, as well as younger guns that are on the special ATF approved list (like an SKS).

All of my C&R's are very functional and most are new/unissued/aresenal refurbed to like new.

The other beauty about C&R's, depending on what you get, is that a lot of milsurp ammo is dirt cheap compared to some of the more modern calibers. I do a lot with 7.62x54R and you can get it as low as $132.50 delivered for 1200 rounds...that's a lot of blasting for the price.

It's also nice to walk into a gunstore, see an incredible deal on a milsurp, whip out your FFL & credit card, and walk out with no additional paperwork...did that yesterday as a matter of fact for an excellent condition SVT-40 :D

Good luck with it...not sure what the NY laws are but I'm betting they're not as liberal (as in good) as Georgia...keep us posted.

C&R can most certainly be wall hangers... you know some of the Commemorative guns that you see for sale, gold plated, etc,etc.. most of them are covered and you can buy the,(Thompson's, etc)..they aren't cheap however...

Yes, they can be, but the way I read the initial post was that he was thinking you could only collect old, non-operable firearms with the C&R...which is not the case.

Hello fellow New Yorker. What a C&R liscense is, is a piece of paper, that allows oyu to buy a particular firearm and have it shipped directly to your house. IE if you were to go to Inter-Ordnance, give them a copy of your liscense, and buy a gun, they would then ship it to your house. This get's rid of the middle man so to speak

No C&R

1) order gun
2) drive to gun store where gun was sent
3) fill out gun stores paperwork and background checks
4) Pay for gun plus any fee the gun store tacked on
take your gun home

C&R
1) find gun you like
2) fax copy of Liscense
3) Pay for gun
4) Wait for the big brown UPS truck

Now pretty much the guns you'll be looking for that qualify under C&R are things used in WWII and the like. Mauser, Mosin, Lee-Enfield. These guns can be found in various conditions and are all advertised as decent shooters.

The big thing I like about the C&R is that once you have it, your obligations for the Civilian Marksmanship Program are filled. Which I can't wait for mine because I heard rumors of M1 Carbines :)

Any questions, just ask, I sent my paperwork in on Saturday and still have some of the info fresh in my head lol
