I noticed a thread on CalGuns.net where Bill Wiese said Ignatius Chinn, Agent at the Cal DOJ Firearms Division, was harassing vendors at the Big Reno Show last weekend, telling them it was a felony for someone in Nevada to sell >10 round mags to a California resident while in Nevada. This is completely untrue, and especially astounding considering that Iggy gave a talk on Firearms Laws at California and Nevada Gun Shows at the National Asian Peace Officers' Association in Las Vegas just a few days before this. Bill posted this at http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=38464. Note that the admin of CalGuns.net won't even let us say the names of various government officials, hence the use of phrases such as "Mr. Asian DOJ man".

I should add the the Cal DOJ is known for following people with California license plates out of Nevada gun shows after making purchases of >10 round mags, then arresting them in California. But it is of course legal for Californians to buy >10 round mags in Nevada, and keep them there, and only use them for shooting trips out to the desert. It is also legal to import replacement parts for >10 round mags already owned by Californians.
 
CA DOJ really has the time, money, and resources to follow CA license plates to see if they go to gun shows in NV?

The Firearms Division doesn't have much of a budget, but they seem to think it's important to spend their time doing so.

I imagine they would just follow out anyone that looked suspicious, and if it is not a car with a CA plate he goes to, then keep looking elsewhere. Or they could follow people in who arrive in cars with CA plates.

Sounds like a pretty cheezy, little operation to me.

At least Mayor BloomingIdiot sends 'agents' all over the East coast making illegal gun purchases on the taxpayers dime. And the ATF runs operations in VA, on federal tax dollars, using the state and local cops, to tell all your neighbors that you are going to buy a gun.

But CADOJ gets headlines for the price of gas money and McD's happymeals. (Wonder if the 'asian DOJ guy' has to turn in the toys?)
 
Yeah, it is not as big as Bloomberg's harassment. But it is still maddening.

I saw an interview in Iggy's office, and he has a safe full of seized firearms, and he pulled out and racked the bolt of a Mak-90 for the cameras.
 
This reminds me of a situation when I lived Maryland. Residents of Delaware would cross into MD to buy beer and wine. DE undercover state police would follow them into MD then charge them when they went back into DE. This worked until the sheriff started arresting the undercover state police. They got the message not to mess with their customers.
On a side note this sounds like a PR stunt that will highlight "trafficing of illegal arms in CA" :barf: :barf: :barf:
 
If I was operating legally in NV and someone from CA tried to harass me . . . I'd harass them right back. :barf:

Seems to me the NV show's promoter could show Iggy & company the door, ejecting them for creating a disturbance.

Or at least put up big posters featuring Iggy's mug and a caption "Don't trust this man, he's a liar from California!"

(Here's a thought - do CA DOJ operatives working in NV violate any NV laws?)
 
Back in the early 90s, there was a sting effort by the San Diego PD up in Carlsbad. Somebody noticed that a vendor was offering ilegal purchases and flagged in the nearest BATF agent, offering to participate in the sting to bust the perps. That got quite interesting, for awhile. :evil: BATF tried to arrest PD officers, PD officers tried to arrest good samaritan, good samaritan produced tape recording of countersting agreement and video tape of PD's illegal ops, everybody shouting at once.

It is not a PR stunt. They just have a passion for keeping "assault weapons" out of the hands of Californians, even the law-abiding.

They have no police powers there, though maybe they could be arrested for disturbing the peace (by harassing law abiding vendors and customers). Wouldn't that be the day.

I saw that crew talking on their radios. I was watching them watch someone else. I thought they were LE of some type but could not figure out who. If I would have known who and what they were doing I might of had to accidentally spill my soda on 'em. Oops!!

No, I don't have a link. Even 25 years ago, such stuff didn't get reported. I do know what I observed, although the exact details are beginning to fuzz a bit. I do remember the ruckus when the two groups of LE started flashing badges and yelling, though.

The show is held at the Hilton Hotel & Casino. I can assure you that nothing like that is going to happen. That hotel was built with money from kalifornians. Whatever the gun show promoter pays the hotel is spit in the ocean compared to the Billions that kalifornians pump into the Nevada gaming industry. Cities like Reno and Las Vegas exist to take kalifornians money. Cities like Reno and Las Vegas exist because they were built with kalifornian money.

Did you look at the captioned photo on the first post? Anyway, he seems to be at most major gun shows that Californians attend, and is quite well known, so it's not like he's trying to hide.

I saw one guy on the radio and not knowing what he looked like said "Hi Iggy" as I passed him. He didnt seem to be too happy with me but I figured that in Nevada he is just another regular citizen like I.

p.s. 10 mags are legal to own and purchase; It is the mags over 10 round capacity that are not legal to import into California. However, it is legal to purchase hi-cap in other states you just cant bring it back with you.

I was thinking that he probably drives around the parking lot. I thought it was more the "Three Strikes" rule.

If your in NV, at a gun show, buying hi-cap mags, and then use the word "Dude" 3 times in 60 seconds... They just slap the cuffs on you. :D

How does one know if someone is a Californian?

They are typically clean shaven and don't smell like the cat dragged them in. Their wallets are fat and they walk around a NV gun show with bugged out eyes and are typically drooling. However, they never buy anything but beef jerky and ammo.

Just kidding. I was at the Reno show and saw Iggy there too. That guy needs to be shown the door by the Hilton and the Lou Fiasco Show.:evil:
 
It's so much easier to bust someone who is a normal law-abiding person who happens to violate a nonsense law like this than it is to go after real criminals who harm other people. That's why the DoJ does this. It's easier and more fun than catching real criminals. Also they bust people who are more affluent and have something to lose, which is more fun. Criminals don't care as much.

Thank you for posting the real full name and photo of this agent. They snoop on us, which gives us tacit approval for us to snoop on them. "What's good for the goose...." as they say.

I just wonder, when Mr. Chinn goes home at the end of the day, does he think to himself, "I made the world a better place by messing up the life of an ordinary guy who just happens to be into guns and just happened to buy a standard-capacity mag for his gun. I feel good about the fact that I may have cost him a year of his income in legal fees, possibly messed up his career, etc, over this meaningless technical violation."
