Ya'll do realize that the difference in trajectory between a 25-06 a .270 and a 30-06 is less than 2 inches at 300yds with the winner being the .270

Depends on the load ;)

And you forgot the other cartridge in this family, one that is very much worth mention, and one that I am just as guitly of not mentioning to Bigcim as everyone else.

The .280 Rem. is one ofthe most flexible cartridges extant, and one that might/should have edged out the .270, were it not for Jack O'Conner.

Seriously do yourself a favor...Dont Forget to look at a Thompson Contender and get both calibers and you will have the best of both worlds...:)

Then you can get another caliber...
and another....
and another....
and another....
and another....
and another....

They make barrells in 24,26,& 28"

I think for your desired outcome you could start with a TC in the 25-06.. It is a flat shooting screamer! And I would any day point a 24" TC at a mulie at 300+ yards and watch it fall!

PS TC also lists its own reloading info for all calibers, which is usually a compressed charge, and when using your fire formed brass, you can achieve the tightest groups & most accurate rifle you can imagine.
