Is caliber choice for Street SD different for folks when chosing defense of self, when compared to defense of self and loved ones? (odd wording eh?) What I mean to ask is..., if you normally only had to worry about your personal SD on the street, would you consider a less powerful SD round in a smaller package, as you could shoot, move and escape, while with spouse and kids, you'd have a good chance of having to stand and fight to allow them to escape? Is this a tactical consideration for the person chosing a SD handgun and caliber? Did anybody out there when single carry a .32 acp or .380, and switched to a 9mm, .38/.357, .40 S&W or larger when they got a family?

Not for me. I have several options available and always go with the best option available. Shotgun if I'm home, Glock 26 with various sized magazines depending on what I can conceal and P3at when I have to.

Figure even if I'm not directly protecting them still losing my life would be a hardship for them. I'm also gonna go on and think that without confirming it with them.... never know what they'll say.

I take threats of deadly force with equal seriousness whether directed at me or at my loved ones.

So no, no difference. I train to fight and win when faced with evil, and equip myself in kind.

No difference to me. I carry either a .357 snubby or .45acp full size equiped with night sights; depending on where I'm going and the time of day. While some calibre have more umph than others, it's generally accepted that where you place the round has as much effect as the size and power of the round. There are of course, exceptions to that rule but carry what you are proficient whit and with as much power and size as you are proficient with.

Short 9 mm (380) is a good sd caliber

That crazy lady in TX last winter was shot with a mag of .380 JHPs from an LCP. She laid down, then less than a minute later got back up and continued her shenanigans.

I carry every day a seecamp 32.in my pocket. But have a m@p 40 sw close by.Something is better than NOTHING.

I carry the most comforting gun that I can carry comfortably, for me it's the 642 and NAA. I did once upon a time carry the P32 everywhere too. In a gunfight, it's all about having a gun. A WithYouAllTheTime is what you will have in the gun fight.

For me its more about what I can comfortably conceal based on my attire. This time of year its either my LCP or K40. In the winter/fall, my 1911 or BHP.

A 25 ACP in your pocket is better than a 45 ACP in your safe. Having said that the minimum caliber I choose for SD is the 9mm/.38 Special. My choices for carry are dictated more by ease of carry and reliability.

Sometimes I carry a 45 ACP but most of the time I find myself with a Kahr K9 IWB or a J framed Smith in my pocket.

All of my bodyguards carry at least a .45acp and a gadzillion spare magazines. I would not feel safe with anything less.
