California, Walmart won't sell me ammo

I guess it wouldn't bother me so much if they asked for Republik of California id from the get go. I've bought my ammo there 3 times before this and a military id was fine. I don't know if they changed their policy within the past week or the group working last night are just the idiots they looked like.

Just got off the phone with my wife and they won't sell ammo to her either, even with utility bills, printed checks and a military id. I need to find out who at Walmart I can call, this is BS.

Sorry to here they are doing that to you. Seeing as it is a stones throw from the border, I'm sure that might be most of the problem. They don't check ID's up in the Riverside/San Berdoo area.

Find someplace else to buy. If they cannot treat someone in the service of the US with some respect, I wouldn't give them a dime of your pittance.

If you are in need some help, I have family in Coronado, East Lake and Lemon Grove. There are a lot of guns stores are in Lemon Grove area if you wanna browse. :)

I know it seems like a drive, but I used to make the opposite drive all the time, (Lived in Murphy Canyon, liked to ride Telegraph canyon/Otay Mesa) Seriously just take a spin up to the Aero/Murphy Canyon Walmart this Saturday, it's straight up 15, just past I8 and Friars Road.

We finally got it resolved and the Walmart does accept an active duty military id. But the customer service that the manager gave us was unacceptable and we turned around and left. Now anybody that talks about going to walmart around us, we let them know what happened and tell them to find a new store. I bought a press and dies the other night so I'll never have to go to that place again. Thanks for all the help.

I ended up buying ammo at the gun shop the other night and paid a lot more than I would've at Walmert. Now I can save and have all the ammo I need at any time. I'm tired of buying by the box too. If I want to shoot 500 rnds in 1 trip, than I can and it won't cost me $13 a box of 50.

Uh? Try a gun shop.
gezzer, while there is no shortage of gun stores in Cali, the amount and kind of ammo they have is inconsistent. In SoCal there is no Gander Mountain, Sportsman's Warehouse, etc. There is a decent chain called Turner's, but they almost never have the same ammo as WalMart. As much as I tried to avoid Wal Mart, sometimes it was about the only place to get practice ammo. Sometimes I would go to Turner's and all they would have in .45ACP was CCI, (which I have had horrible luck with for handguns,) Wolf, (Same thing,) and Black Hills reloads for $26/50 rounds. At the time, Winchester White Box was about $18-$20/100 at WalMart. So $18/100 for new FMJ ammo or $52/100 for leadtip reloads? If I had that kind of loot to throw around I would be reloading already.

Now WWB is filthy ammo, but it cycles fine in my 1911, unlike the other three.

When Turner's or SoCal gun or the like would have reasonably priced ammo, I would buy it, (I bought PMC from SoCal more than once.) I don't mind paying a few bucks more to support the local guy and not support China Mart, it simply isn't always practical in San Diego county.

Fortunately since moving up to WA state, I have discovered that the local guys do carry a better selection of ammo, and their prices aren't much more than Wally World. In the Wake of Zumbo-Gate, I have been trying to support Remington, and I have bought their ammo from three local shops, (Sam's, Lynnwood Guns, and my favorite shop AMS.)

I hate to say with everyone buying from Wally world and hating them or whatever, may just be the problem of gun store inconsistent inventory.\

I own a shop and cannot buy from my distributors for what Wally world sells to the public. I then have to pay shipping!

Customer service means a lot to me but it don't to Wally World! Don't blame their part time employees it is the corporate policy that is wrong.

Keep banging your head against a brick wall :banghead: if you want but that will not solve your ammo unavailability. Order it on line if you have to but get this you will not get the cheapest available. Again I hate to say you get what you pay for.

When Wally world won't sell ammo I will be happy.

Also complaining about Wally world is getting very boring and this is the LAST Wally world post I will ever open. :barf:

I'm an Alabama resident. When I was in San Bernardino county for an LFI course last month, I bought a case of .45 from the local Big 5. I even called ahead of time to find out whether they required CA ID, and the manager said all they needed was proof of age. Best of all, their prices were lower than Sportsman's Guide -- even before shipping.

There are Big 5's all over San Diego. No need to go to Wal Mart, and no need to pay gun store prices if that is a big concern (though really I wonder how much you spent on gas and how much your time is worth to you).
