Many , if mot most of us , remember disparaging remarks made by Camping World/Gander Mountain top-of-the-food-chain Marc Lemonis a while back. I'm pretty sure that those remarks caused a significant number of potential customers to shop elsewhere - in keeping with the desires of the aforementioned Mr. Lemonis.

Well , my local used to be Gander Mountain is sporting a new display , a rather large new display. Makes me wonder if the top guy isn't quietly trying to appeal to those who he so deliberately scorned... 20181025_104153.jpg
(use a vehicle for perspective...)

The GM that I actually had enjoyed visiting up until about a year before it closed is still vacant. It's about 40 miles south of me, but the close proximity of another RV dealer is apparently keeping CW at bay.

For large, outdoors stores for me, it's just Bass Pro, with one store in my city, one about 50 miles south of me (to which I've never been), and one about 50 miles north of me, which is my favorite so far.

Every Camping World I've seen over the years has flown that beautiful, huge flag.
It is impressive in person.
However, I won't spend any more of my money there after the "truth" came out, flag or not.

Yes, the one near me was sporting a HUUGGEE flag when we went by yesterday. Nevertheless, I don't believe the flag is indicative of an intent to no longer trying to alienate supporters of one party or politician. He made a statement one way, if he wants to, he'll make a statement the other way...Until then, and maybe still after then, I'll spend my money elsewhere.

Our Scouts loved retiring an old Garrison flag.
For safety we used a large, sandy lake shore beach.
Guests could watch the ceremony from the bluff above.
Bugle and a 12 gauge salute.
It was stirring!

Haven't shopped at Camping World in quite few years, and never intend to, never saw that many good deals there in past years, although that doesn't matter, there CEO said it all.

Gander Mountain here closed down, reopened as Gander Outdoors after the buyout. It looked good, store was a bit austere, gun selection was good, prices not as exorbitant. Didn't last long though, I guess the boss' big mouth cost him the business.

I had not heard this so I checked it out. It must be absolutely true because Snopes tried to white wash it.

I used to live Gander Mountain but they failed. Got hooked on Bass Pro (pun intended) but moved to where Cabela’s is king. Love Cabela’s WAY more than Bass Pro. Now Johnny Morris and Bass Pro bought Cabela’s and they are mucking it up royally. I do believe Johnny Morris is anti-gun, or at least only pro-hunting-gun.

I am going to make Sportsman’s Warehouse, Rifle Gear and LGS’s my go to places.

The Gander Outdoors where I used to live had a better gun selection that any other gun store in the area;b join the Good Sam club and get discounts, even on guns; one of two stores that carried reloading supplies including 8# jugs of powder........

I love me some Sportsman's Warehouse!
My first experience was in Fresno, Ca. in September. I stopped by the Carson City,Nv store this past Wednesday and loved it even more.

Too bad I was out of state, I saw a OU there that would’ve gone home with me...:(

Stay safe!

Federal law allows to buy the gun; does CA require you go through some arduous process if it is out of state?

Is Big5 still around? They are/were the Academy of the West Coast.

Sounds like the flag display is nothing new, so don't read anything more into it than what you see.
Makes no matter to me either way.
I shop for the best price, wherever it may be.
Besides, be it Gander, Cabela's, Bass Pro, whatever,,,The 'real' money is in imported clothing, not firearms.

No, as long as they are CA legal, firearms are shipped to your choice of FFL and processed as usual.

In recent years, I have bought several firearms from out of state vendors shipped to my FFL without issues. Many online vendors have "CA Legal" firearms pages like these:

Sportsman's Outdoor Superstore - https://www.sportsmansoutdoorsuperstore.com/category.cfm/sportsman/california-legal-guns

Bud's Gun Shop - https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=ca+legal

And I do believe used guns like police trade-ins are also eligible as long as they meet CA requirements and are purchased with 10 round magazines (I am thinking of buying some due to low price of 40S&W police trade-ins) - https://www.sportsmansoutdoorsuperstore.com/category.cfm/sportsman/used-firearms/order_by/min_price

Is Big5 still around?
Alive and well. Still selling rifles/shotguns/ammunition and in recent years, even started selling primers to my surprise and delight (Free shipping with $39+ orders) - https://www.big5sportinggoods.com/store/browse/fishing-hunting/hunting/sporting-arms/_/N-aec

Bad people sometimes do things to look like good people, so they can continue to do bad things...

(Looking at you, CTD.)
+1. Just like elections have consequences, what vendors do and say may have lasting effect on their customers. As Demi-human posted, there were vendors who price-gouged during component shortages and I won't buy from them for the rest of my life as there are plenty of other vendors who did not price-gouge.

I buy all my guns from the local mom and pop gun stores. I feel better than supporting a big corporation.
Bass pro and Dicks Sporting goods are the only chain stores near me.
We used to have a Sports Authority and Galyans, they went out of business and I suspect Dicks will be next?

Our local Gander Mountain was one of the stores that reopened as Gander Outdoors, but I haven't been in since it did. Mr. Lemonis asked that I not patronize his business and I have chosen to honor his request.

I'm looking forward to our local Dick's going under. I suspect they will in the next year or two.

Bass Pro I still do business with along with Rural King and a number of local mom & pop gun stores. In fact I prefer the latter rather than the former for the most part.

I wouldn't step foot in a GM to use the bathroom. Gouging customers isn't ok with me.

There'd probably be a coin slot or credit card reader on the toilet anyway.

"Businessmen!!! Move your product with that Patriotic sell!!" Frank Zappa - 1973. When I was young and dumb and fresh out of the service I used to think that anybody who flew the colors must be trustworthy. I don't think that any more. It has, sadly, become just another marketing tool. "Maku mozo!!!" (Japanese, meaning "do not be deluded")

I still go to Dicks, when the kids need to get fitted for shoes, then I order them online elsewhere when I get home.

Tired of these people and their politics. Elections have consequences (think Barack Hussein Obama said that) as does one's statements. They don't want me, nor my money, so I'll go elsewhere. I do not understand how they think they can eliminate at least 1/2 of their market and still make money, and even if you could wouldn't you still want more money if you're in business?!?! Waiting for the shareholders to run these people out, or they can also go down with the ship.

Just a thought......

If this company has enough money to hire "ad men" to fix the damage caused by bad marketing decisions, after the fact.....

Where were they when the idea to,alienate their customers, first came up?

Sort of a rhetorical question but it holds water.Hire some marketing firm..... they screw up.Instead of admitting the fubar, hire another P.R. firm to fix it. GM isn't alone in this downward trend. If your marketing firm doesn't know "jack" about my product, tell me again why I should hire you?

Federal law allows you to walk out of the store in another state with a long arm. So, if I understand you correctly, California still wants you to have it shipped to CA and run through the background check a second time?
