Can I melt down my moly-coated bullets?

I've pretty much decided I'm no going to use the 500 moly-coated bullets I purchased for my 45 ACP. So, I'm hoping I can just melt them down and scoop the moly off the top of the melt (if it floats). Is this a plan that looks like it makes any sense or am I ask'n for trouble?

I would just shoot them or sell them but if they are Precision bullets, they are coated with something that is not just moly, you might have to chip off the coating so the lead can get out.

Cut into them with some dikes and melt the lead out, discarding the "covers".

If they are Precision Bullets, I'll buy'em. You'd probably be able to buy alot more lead from the sale of the bullets than you'd be able to get from the bullets themselves.

These are Western Nevada brand. I guess the only thing to do is just throw a handful of them into the pot and see what happens.

Buck Snort--You've got 500 of the things, as I understand it. That's enough to make it worth selling, IMHO. (And all that moly coating would make for a great deal of nuisance skimming were you to melt them down, too!)

BTW, you can send 'em USPS, in one of those "Flat Rate" boxes, and the cost is quite reasonable. I got 50# of lead shipped to me that way for, I think, $15. My local postmaster was amazed at the weight of the box, but, like the TV ad says, if it's less than 70#, and it fits, it ships.

Advertise the bullets in several places. Put a reasonable price on 'em--they'll sell for much more than their scrap lead value! If they don't sell, well, then scrap 'em.

I still wouldn't bother smelting them myself, but, that's just me.

Yes, with moly coated jacketed bullets you can tumble the moly off. If they are some sort or lead bullets with moly coating(never heard of that), I'd shoot or sell them. I'd lean towards just shooting them.
