Just picked up a Marlin .17 with a heavy barrel for the wife. Beautiful rifle, btw. The only rings they had which would fit were the chintsy bb gun type. I put a set on temporarily, but they loosen the more rounds you fire. The scope is a Bushnell Elite, model 3200. Just wondering what type of rings you all might recommend. I appreciate the help.

If the rifle isn't drilled and tapped and you have to use dovetailed rings, I've had good luck with Leupold's versions. They tend to stay put.

You might also try the BKL mounts - #261 in particular. I used to have a Marlin 917 and the #261 mount worked very well on it.

This is a 3/8th" rimfire dovetail, correct?

My favorite rimfire rings are Lynx brand.

They are all-steel and high quality. But I have also used the Burris rimfires.

Hmmm, I just did a search and it would appear that Lynx (B-Square) quit making the rings in rimfire format - very sad. I'd go with Burris Steel:

Then, AFTER you are satisifed with your scope choice, and have the rifle zeroed, use Blue threadlocker and double check zero, then allow to dry.

Whatever you do, avoid Millett rings like the plague. I like their scopes, but their rings are crap.

I use B-Square airgun scope rings or airsport rings. #25015 from MidwayUSA. price was $14.00. These have reversible dovetail clamps that will fit dovetails ranging in size from 9.5mm - 13mm. That covers all rifles in .17 rimfire. The rings are matte blue. Have four screws on each ringcap. Twice the clamping area of conventional mounts. Threaded recoil stop that goes through the center of one of the ring bases with a setscrew to thread into it against the top of receiver. The rings were lapped with a lapping tool to remove high spots. Only four or five passes were needed. The rings are sturdy and strong. The rifle shoots Hornady 17 gr redtips into one hole with no paper between the bullet holes when my friend is shooting it. He has identical rifle with same features. He says that mine shoots better than his. RifleBasix trigger. The floating recoil lug is drilled and threaded for set screw.

The rings are on a Marlin 17VS HMR. I have used a Tasco 6-24x44 varmint and a Weaver V24 varmint plex and presently have a Mueller Eradicater on this rifle.

RifleBasix trigger.

robsc, you are the third person to recommend this trigger since I bought my (wifes, lol) Marlin. The trigger could certainly use some work. I was a bit hesitant to jump on the riflebasix bandwagon, as I've never owned one, but with so many singing their praises I guess its a fairly safe bet. Is there anything else you'd recommend I pick up for it?

I'd like to find a fix for the way the magazine fits. Do you know of any that take the play out of it? Seems like about half the time I have to keep the magazine pressed up or it wont feed correctly. You'd think it'd fit snugly the way it sits on that rail, but it really doesn't. Any suggestions?
