Can you get red flagged?

Hi PlayboyPenguin-

Do you really believe government agents are specifically listening to your mundane discussions with your girlfriend about where you're going to dinner and which lame movie you'll see afterwards? Who do you think is monitoring the billions of telephone calls that occur each week?

Unless you're talking to shady pals in choice Middle East countries, you can put your mind at ease. The feds don't give a rat's butt about you.

Hi Blue Jays, government agents are regularly monitoring phone calls, e-mails, satellite coms. etc. There is a place here in the U.K that is doing this 24/7 and it`s staffed by Americans even though it`s a British base, type this into a search engine; Menwith Hill.

Big Brother is watching.

Nigel.

I was wondering if there is ever any reason to be concerned about getting red flagged because of purchasing a large number of firearms.
Not in Washington State, PP. If you can manage purchasing 10 firearms in a thirty-day period up here, I believe you actually get a certificate of commendation signed by Christine herself ...

beaucoup ammo noted that
Our son is in Bahrain, and whenever we initiate a phone call, there's always a little "click" after the disconnect. It's to the point that I wait to hear it!
ALL DoD phone systems are subject to monitoring, and for very good OPSEC reasons. How is this germane to the discussion of firearms purchases INCONUS?

If you buy multiple firearms at once, you do need to get a seperate NICS proceed number for each.
WRONG

1 NICS call is ok for multiple purchase, thats why the 4473 has space for three firearms if more are purchased the list gets stappled to the 4473. When the purchase is for handguns multiple purchase gets reported to th BATF. We fax this form to the BATF with all your information type of firearms etc.

Dear Playboy Penguin (Great nic!),

There is no guarenteed right to privacy in the Constitution.

Carry on,

"The Constitution does not specifically mention a right to privacy. However, Supreme Court decisions over the years have established that the right to privacy is a basic human right, and as such is protected by virtue of the 9th Amendment. The right to privacy has come to the public's attention via several controversial Supreme Court rulings, including several dealing with contraception (the Griswold and Eisenstadt cases), interracial marriage (the Loving case), and abortion (the well-known Roe v Wade case). In addition, it is said that a right to privacy is inherent in many of the amendments in the Bill of Rights, such as the 3rd, the 4th's search and seizure limits, and the 5th's self-incrimination limit." :)

I was wondering if there is ever any reason to be concerned about getting red flagged because of purchasing a large number of firearms. With a govt that likes to wire tap individual citizens phones at random and use any reason to lock people away without council it is something I was just curious about. I have bought 8 firearms in less than a month and it will be 9 if I can ever find the elusive Ruger .454 Alaskan.

I doubt you'll get "red flagged" unless you're buying a lot of handguns at one time, especially el-cheapo ones.

Now... Last I looked, the government hasn't been tapping random citzens' phones... If you have someone from Baghdad who is into bombing folks calling you, you're gonna get tapped. Believe me, I can deal with that.

Also, I think that the reason they've used to lock folks up without counsel (correct spelling) is that folks are trying to kill us. Last I looked, they've succeeded pretty well. Not as well as they'd like, however, so... If you're worried about the civil rights of that Padilla fellow or Johnny Jihad, why don't you go visit 'em?

Bogie, I am sorry you felt the need to express so strongly how you know absolutely nothing about the reality of the situation. If you would like some straight info on what is going on start reading the papers or just look up some of the information from the hearings online. if you do not want to go to this length just drop me a line. My e-mail is in my profile and i will be glad to educate you. As for going and visiting these people. i have faced them on their own turf. I hate to break it to you. the vast majority of the people turned over to our care were brought in by bounty hunters that were paid per person they brought in to custody. The majority of them are simple farmers with no desire to hurt anyone. if you ever find yourself in a bad situation where you have no power or control and you are being abused I hope someone else speaks up for you better than you seem to do for others.

You make my case for me. The so called right to privacy is an invention of the leftist mind made to allow women to use abortion as a form of birth control, and normalize homosexuality.

I was told that they can charge you with "Stockpiling" if you purchase too many of the exact same firearm model. Never seen it on the record books, though.

Back to the original question:

If you buy more than 1 handgun from the same dealer in a 7 day period, the dealer is required to report it to the BATFE.

I would imagine if you did this once or twice, it wouldn't matter, but if you bought 2 handguns a week 2 or 3 times a month, the BATFE will be checking up on you.

Okay. Guess I must be delusional. I guess I imagined a buncha folks flying improvised cruise missiles into the tallest buildings in the biggest city of our nation. I guess I don't understand just how peaceful the Iraqi, Iranian, oh, heck, just all those Islamic folks in general are - I just can't get past the mass graves...

IMHO, what we _should_ have done, after the WTC was bombed, as soon as the video images of people dancing for joy in their Arab streets came on the air, was bomb those countries into sterility. If we've got a few folks in jail who shouldn't be... Well, they're getting fed darn good. They've got their prayer rugs. Now, I've been in the Army... Miltary folks, regardless of what one learns at Ivy University or Hollywood, are not stupid. They are not going to waste time and resources indiscriminately.

Now, my BS indicator is pegged... You say you've bought 8 guns in the past month. Now, unless you're buying some serious junk, that's some real cash... Did you just get the bug? Are you trying to see how many big evil boomsticks you can acquire, so that you can write a nice article for some "liberal" rag?

You know, I used to think that gun owners were paranoid, back in the eighties and nineties... Now, it's the left who seems to think that everyone's out to get 'em, and they're trying to turn that paranoia loose...

I know more than a little about the current international situation. On 9/11/01, the world changed. We're at war, and a lot of what some _theorists_ seem to take for granted is gone for the duration.

You say you'll be kind enough to "educate" me - Whoopee. FWIW, I'm not an uneducated redneck... I'm your basic hippie artist. And I'm a-quakin' in my Mensan combat boots... Methinx you have a tendency to stereotype... I've seen far too many people who prowl the halls of academia who assume that everyone else, especially those who disagree with them, requires "education." What you have, son, is an opinion... Period.

Remember. We're at war. There's a buncha folks out there who want to kill us. If we try to negotiate, they perceive it as weakness, and try to figure out a way to use it to kill us easier. If we are kind, they perceive it as weakness, and try to figure out a way to use it to kill us easier. If we are respectful to their religion and their civilian populations, they perceive it as weakness, and try to figure out a way to use it to kill us easier. Etc., etc.

Last night, I was looking through the June 12, 1944 Life Magazine that I just ebayed... I'm going to be scanning some stuff for framing for my rec room (Bogie's Bunker) walls... I don't think I saw a single solitary "excuse" for Hitler or Tojo in the whole magazine. I didn't see any letters to the editor about how we needed to "consider" things. I didn't see anyone decrying our leaders for all the troops who died in the greatest invasion the world had ever seen. I did see, on the cover, a lovely photo through open bomb bay doors of some very large care packings being dropped on an axis city.

Dude, I've been here a LONG time. I don't trust you. I don't think I particularly like you. You say you're a gun person. I'll shoot with you, play your game (as long as it doesn't require a buncha running and jumping on my ol' knees), and I'll take your money. I've got benchrest rifles, CMP-type rifles, handguns, shotguns, whatever. I call poser - any damn fool can do photos.

Now, you other folks who are reading this may wish to take something into consideration... I've seen a rash of posts on the L&P forum, generally leading toward "vote for anyone but a Republican." I'm tired of it. Make up your own damn mind about who to vote for, but I'm sick of the whole "big lie" bit - say something long enough, and often enough inside that time period, and people come to believe it, regardless of validity. One example would be the hackneyed "you're 42 times more likely to get shot if you own a gun" bs... It's hackneyed, and disproven, but it keeps being trotted out, because people DO NOT WANT to hear different.

Bogie, call me crazy but I seem to remember that none of the people that attacked us where Iraqi. I also seem to remember something about their funding coming from the UAE. The very same govt we are turning control of out shipping ports over to soon. If you want to go after all muslim or arab people for that acts of a few I would suggest that you would also have to condemn all christians for the acts of those that bomb clinics or protest at funerals. I have been there. I have seen the man on the street in these places and I can tell you that the majority of them are infatuated with western culture. They would love to bring many aspects of our lives into their own world. unfortunately the resources of their country are controlled by a small number of people who rely of religious zealotry to stay in power. As for why I have bought some weapon recently I have explained it before but will do so again for your sole benefit. I used to have a collection of revolvers years ago but had to sell them to pay my car payments while I was in Iraq. I have always wanted to get another collection together but never did. Other needs got in the way and it just faded to the back of my list. I then happened upon this board and it kind of rekindled the flame. Like re-uniting with a long lost love. I am actually in a period of my life where I have some expendable income and also got a pretty good tax return this year so I decided to put it to good use. I am afraid if the best thing you can think of to counter the fact that I am a rational person with an opinion that doesn't conform to your limited view of the world is that I must somehow not be for real you will have to think again. :)

Oh yeah... You've been here about 25 (or less) days, and you've racked up 468 posts so far...

Now, I'm not so bored that I'll go back and look at the history, but I'll wager that the vast majority read something like....

"Blah, blah, blah, outrage, blah, outrage, Bush and Cheney are the Great Satans - vote for anyone but the Republicans, blah, outrage, blah."

You also keep using terms and phrases which are _not_ gun-nut oriented. In fact, many of 'em are almost the exact opposite of what most of us "gun culture" folks would say...

Anyone else feel bored?

er... He's up to 469...

Bogie, I suggest you do go back and look then because you are totally off base. Do some research before making yourself look foolish by saying something so easily proven wrong. Take a few minutes and browse through my posts. Most are questions about makes and models I am interested in or advice on carry options, general conversation topics like finish and make preferences, etc. I asked you too come up with a better defense and I guess it was asking too much.

Okay - 20 days, 470 posts...

Let's see... I didn't know 1911s had "handles." Oh, and 9mms have handles too... ooohhh, tupperware...

Bad advice - if you have cops, of any sort, knocking on your door, and you know they're cops, don't stuff the boomstick in your pants. That gets them highly agitated. Stick it in a drawer or something before you open the door. Oh yeah - The military intelligence and military police/CID folks I knew in the service weren't generally the types to "shoot first, and ask questions later." And most FBI/DEA types who I personally know (and have taken money from...) tended to come to the force via either police-type training, law, or business/accounting. You weren't a Navy Seel, were you?

If you're for real, you really should become active in Pink Pistols. Oleg's done some of their images... You may learn something about our rights.

I am not one of "those people" that feel they have the right to be armed every minute of every day (never understood guys who want a gun on their hip all the time...is it a small penis thing?

I'm one of "those people" who feels that I should have the right to the means to defend myself 24/7. And I think that ol' Humphrey's pretty much average sized.

No injuries in recent years but when I was younger I was shooting cans with my grandmother (our tri-county marksmanship champion) and I decided to try a draw and shoot from my holster with her weapon which had a longer barrel than mine and the barrel hooked on the holster and I fired straight into the top of my foot with a .22 cal revolver.

Musta been awful tough getting into the Army with that sort of previous injury. Even from a .22, that can really mess things up.

Talk about paranoid crap...you have a far better chance of being struck by lightning then being taken hostage in or be involved in a bank robbery. Although, that very reason you gave of better to have and not need is better than needing and not having is why I carry a pistol in my car so I agree with you to a certain point. As far as employees being defenseless during a robbery...the fact is that clerk/cashiers that were armed were involved in more fatal shootings than unarmed clerks according to the 2004 statistics. If you have a job that is soooo dangerous and you are not allowed a weapon then get another job if you truely feel unsafe. I just feel that the vast majority of people are not stable/mature/competent enough to carry a weapon.

I don't play golf, and I'm not a farmer. I do patronize gas stations, shopping malls, etc. As for the rest of your statement... Maybe someone else would like to weigh in...

Oh, and I couldn't resist this one...

Are you saying that the 2nd Amenedment is outdated since we now have national Guards and State militias? I am missing your point.

The one thing I _really_ hate is when someone takes a statement, and attempts to twist it into something completely unrecognizable. Epijunkie's statements are correct, and then we have an attempted twistage (got my poetic license tucked firmly in the ol' wallet...) by our black & white waddler...

Now, it may just be me, but I see this quite a bit among the ol' campus debate society survivors. IMHO, it is on the far side of tiresome.

Ah.... And another one...

Ohhh...motorcycles...a love I am no longer allowed to enjoy. A couple shattered knees, a pin in my collarbone, and several concussions and broken bones later and I am told they are too dangerous and unless I want to be single again I will stay off them. MOTORCYCLES DO NOT MAIM PEOPLE !!!!PEOPLE MAIM MOTORCYCLES..err...wait....people maim people...whatever...am I making sense???

Now, was all this before, or after, you just got back from a tour in Iraq, which was the reason you sold all your "old" guns to make your car payments?

Bogie...

Hi Bogie-

You've made some EXCELLENT points that highlight the troll-like statements PlayboyPenguin has been spreading on this forum. You're absolutely correct...someone who bursts onto THR with nearly 500 leftist posts inside the span of a month is fishing for controversy.

What small little minds someone must have to attack someone simply because they do not agree with them. Some of my motorcycle injuries where as a kid (rode motorcross for 1 and a half years) and some where as an adult. Do you actually think that every person in the military is discharged if we break a bone or get a flesh wound. If so it just goes to show how little you know about the military. My broken knee was when I was 14 and my collar bone was when I was 32. I was still well able to do my duty in the military since bones do heal and I passed all my physical exams at the age of 17 with flying colors. Can you say the same? Some small petty people would rather try and attack others than actually do something themselves. They can't think for themselves or stand on their own merits so anyone that can is a threat. It is just that simple. I am sorry you feel threatened by some of my opinions but I will still continue to share them with the same furvor I have until this day. If I am wrong about you please feel free to correct me. I have judged people too quickly in my life before. If I ever state an incorrect fact feel free to present the true information. I am not afraid to admit a mistake. But if all you can do is cut and paste small out of context clips (while ignoring all the constructive things I have posted) to try and back up your lame attempts at attacking me and my personal opinions then I suggest you should spend your time more constructively because the best thing about it all is that I could not care less what a few right wing zealots think of me or my opinions. I know what I think of yours. :)
