Can you get red flagged?

Hey Norm, such statements of bigotry and hatefullness would be saddening if they weren't just plain stereotypical and oh so boring.

I am neither hateful nor a bigot. I am however, observant of current political trends. Open your eyes friend.

"observant of current political trends. Open your eyes..."

Eyes are wide open and I don't like what I see. Grab your guns, gold and gas. This administration has sold the middle class down the river of no return. Closing on 9 TRILLION in debt!

China or the UAE could sink us.

I'd get ammo, too...lots of ammo. When food becomes unaffordable, you'll want to protect what you have. What P.P. is saying isn't exclusive to "the left." Grab a random Conservative and ask him/her what they think about the plans for port insecurity.

2 of the 9/11 hi-jackers were FROM the UAE. Bin Laden Bank is the biggest in the UAE.

"OUR"? Who'd A Thunk It?

"Bogie it is not PC to "out" people."..hwp

Unless you "out" yourself:

I guess I'm just intolerant...

I also remember how much hassle friends had getting into the Army in the mid eighties. Any sort of steel plates or pins pretty much meant being politely told that they needed to look elsewhere. A "shattered" knee, much less two, even with some serious time to recover following, would definitely be all three strikes. A gunshot wound, even a healed one in an extremity, would just be icing on the cake.

So, I call BS. I think you're posing as a vet. As a veteran, I take GREAT offense at that. Go back to Democratic Underground.

Oh, heck... Let's go looking again...

Just to clear up some confusion...I was a mental health profession (my masters is in abnormal psychology with a concentration in psychobiology and teaching).

Well, you _could_ have gone to college after you got out... In the middle of all the other stuff, some of which I suspect must be "top sekrit."

The only thing bad is that once they are legal to own we need to make sure there are limits as to who can produce and market or some gun makers will flood the market with cheap, unsafe autos solely for the black market. I do not think it is the law abiding citizen that buys one that will be any problem (like you or me) but instead some greedy corporation or gun maker than sees a way to make a quick buck.

You _really_ don't know anything about what is probably one of the top 3-4 regulated businesses in this country, do you?

I am not sure were this "an armed society is a polite society" idea comes from? Can anyone tell me? I have been in coutries where they have an armed society and trust me...you would not want to live there. It is like living in constant civil war between religous factions, ethnic backgrounds, and political factions. Just because you wish something were so does not make it possible.

You are also obviously not aware of the raging bloodbaths in this country, where the streets in every city ran red with blood, before 1934... Oh, wait a minute... Never mind...

I can attest to that, I know that when we came under fire one time in panama I hid behind the blade of an earth mover, held my 9mm over my head and fired wildly into the tree line without even raising my head to look.

Ahah! Now you were in Panama too... Gawd, but that place was an armpit... Giant creepy crawlies. As bad as Texas, but with humidity.

US ARMY veteran. Outside that I was a police officer for like 2 weeks before getting activated and sent to Iraq but never went back to it and never saw any real violence as an LEO.

Okay... Were you guard or reserves?

I'm seeing timelines now...

Let's say you were born in 1965, since you're 40... That puts you joining the Army in 1982 at 17. Yup. I remember those physicals. 10 years later, you're in Iraq. And then you do it again, 10+ years after that, selling all your guns to make car payments, since I guess Uncle must not have direct deposited or something.... In the middle of all this, you garner a BS or a BA, and presumably an MS...

Hey, they're everyone's rights. I don't give a darn about the sexual orientation of someone at the range, as long as they're not wearing those seatless leather pants and swinging an AR around like a Freddie Mercury mike stand...

Ahhh... Bogie have coffee now...

And it's a darn sight better than the loverly stuff from either Fort Meadowmuffin or Fort Ben (home of the golf course from hades, the 19th hole, and Hotel Bravo). You know, when I was in Panama (which was before all the crapola really happened, we generally didn't wander around with loaded boomsticks. We did have PDF force escorts, and the only time I saw anyone shoot anything was when they shot the bejeezus out of a perfectly good snake...

Ah.. I'm sorry, what was the original question? Oh yes now I remember, redflagging. I don't think there's that great abundance of BATF, that each and every little piece of paperwork gets scrutinized immediately , or even within the same month, unless there's a bunch of same model EBR or handguns purchased. Patterns of such purchases over monthes would get looked at. America is chock full of collectors, cowboy shooters and plain old geezer-type hoarders.

Now that Bogie brings it up ...

Hmm ... December 20, 1989 ... where was I? Oh, that's it ... Enjoying the hospitality of Naval Station, Rodman, Panama ... I don't recall seeing any Berettas -- they were pretty doggone rare then, we in the USN and USMC didn't have 'em -- but I sure saw (and had my own) a buttload of M1911A1s. Earth mover? Tree line? And just where were you? And with what unit?
(And, come to think of it: I've got some old photos somewhere showing Army MPs searching civilians ... all the MPs had 1911s -- I remember noticing that some of 'em had the then-new nylon Bianchi UM-84 holsters and I, with my old flap leather holster, was envious.)

Call me paranoid, but I suspect the powers that be do keep track of how many 4473's one has filled out. I think it is simply naive to think that in this age of technology and data storage the feds would simply discard the record after a few days. Now, of course, there is no way they know how many or what type of firearm each citizen owns.

Am I concerned that the BATFE will come to my door citing the number of NICS checks I have been through as justification? No. Do I believe that those of us who buy a dozen or more guns per annum do stand out a bit over the rest of the population? You bet.

It would be foolish to think that the government does not have a bio on every person with an SSN, or that that bio does not include background checks for gun purchases. The IRS knows how much money we owe down to the dollar each and every year, so that means they are keeping track of 150 million people's finances. By comparison, keeping loose tabs on 80 million gun owners is a small task.

The Federal government has more information on each one of us than we would like to believe. We simply have to trust that that information will not be misused. I do not believe the feds watch every move we make just because we have bought guns. But I am quite sure that that information is readily available, should they ever become interested in one of us.

Hi All-

Old Dog...you're going to be waiting a long time to receive a response to your questions regarding location, MOS, and unit name!

Bearmgc...as far as the original question posed in this thread, it is difficult to have reasonable THR forumites continue to post answers because unbeknownst to the respondents, the thread was designed to be inflammatory right from the start.

I don't think we're going to hear any real information, because the operative in question is doubtless a Navy Seel, with special super-duper training and duties, and even knowing when he goes to do his bathroom duties is ultra top sekrit.

Now, for my creds:

I was public affairs. Got to play with lots of cool toys and meet lots of cool people. Trained with and supported all branches of the service. Never trained with Navy Seals, but did drink with one once. Mistake.

I was public affairs.
Hey, I used to drink with our ass't PAO, a master chief journalist; he made sure I got back to the base in one piece and didn't get arrested ...
Never trained with Navy Seals, but did drink with one once.
You just have to make sure they wear their good flip-flops to the bar and don't accidently hit you with those big plastic watches while hoisting a drink ...

How to tell the Real Soljers...

"Hey, where's the club?"

One of the most beyootiful sights I ever saw was a conex of budweiser that got choppered in on a beach on the Pacific side - A quarter a can, but hey, AAFES took darn good of the troopies, and they're really busting hump over in Iraq too... We couldn't go in the water (major sharkage in evidence), but there was NOTHING quite like a cool frosty one while you hoped the wind would blow the other direction...

You know, I never, ever thought I would see the phrase "seatless leather pants" in a gun forum.

If I see anyone wearin' 'em at the range, I'll snicker. That hot brass do most surely bounce, don't it? Man, that's right up there with the bikini-girls-shooting-full-auto vids: guess it's an okay gig but after awhile you have too many "cute liitle burnies" to keep on doin' it.

As for bein' "red-flagged," tick off or worry the (B)ATF(E) enough and you'll find out if and how. What's the line? "Meddle not in the affairs of bureaucrats, for they are powerful and quick to anger."

Might as well go whole hog and annoy your local version of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles and the IRS and State Income Tax folks (if any). It'll be fun! Er, won't it?

It's easier to grit your teeth make nice when there's no avoiding the paperwork. Smile and fill it out, and remember, putting "not yet!" in the "Have You Renounced United States Citizenship?" box isn't wise!

...This is why I like used guns and private sales: no paperwork, no bothering the poor old (B)ATF(E). Everybody's happy!

Don't worry about being "red-flagged," we.....uh, they would never do that. Yeah that's the ticket. :D

The federal government is staffed by hundreds of thousands of ordinary people. If such information was being gathered into personal profiles on each one of us we would have heard whistle-blower testimony a heck of a long time ago. Why? Because among the employees there is a diversity of morals, personal convictions. personal agendas, and the absolute certainty that there are among them those who are unable to keep their mouths shut, no matter what oath of secrecy has been sworn to.

There are very few secrets these days.

Bogie, I would gladly write my biography for you since you seem to be very interested in reading it. :) Just drop me an e-mail anytime. It is listed in my profile. But if this interest is your adolescent way of flirting I feel I must warn you. I have been in a committed relationship for the past 13 yrs. :)
I have stated before I was ARMY reserves then went into the Active Reserves (yes there is an active reserve, some people are active reserves their whole career). Then back to the reserves.
As for you not seeing a Beretta then I guess you where not a 96B because that is what we were issued. Some MOS's get different firearms. Just like Air recon guys (which trained with us alot) were issued a different pistol than we were.
I am also sorry that I managed to go to school during my time in the military and better myself to where I can now buy what I want (within reason). It took me alot of time to find my niche in life and I went back and forth between alot of careers in that time (hard for to stick with anything more than a few years before getting bored). This obviously bothers you since you liked pointing out my recent purchases (if you lived nearby i would gladly let you shoot anything I own). I did not have the burden of a social life, being a gay closeted man in the military so it left me alot of free time. Being gay in the military often means keeping to yourself, not going out drinking or socializing much because of not wanting to say or do something to make people question you.
As for selling my weapons. When I got activated I took a pay cut from my civilian life. This made it a little hard to make ends meet. this is a common problem. One that is really big right now with alot of reservists whose families are having to try to get by on alot less than whatthey were bringing in with their civilian jobs.
Also, I am not 40...I am 39 and a half. And I have never even owned a pair of leather pants. :)

Redflagging? Well I welcome the folks at Govt. Central. Heck, I'll even put up a pot of coffee and serve biscuits!:D

I wish I had the funds to buy many firearms at one time but two at one time is all I have managed. I don't say anything on the phone or in an e-mail that someones grandma would take umbrage with.

Let's face it, most of us lead boring ordinary lives the Feds could care less about. We are so off the radar it is laughable. Ah, wouldn't it be nice to know that the government finds me of interest! Oh well. Sigh! ;) :D

Penguin, I can write a biography too... Cluebat time: This is the internet. Would you like to see the version that says that I'm a mountain man with a pet grizzly, or the one that says that I live in the south seas, on coconuts and fish?

You keep saying things like, not just a non-gun person, but an anti-gun person. You keep trolling and fishing for reactions.

Bogie...

Hi Bogie-

In further evidence of his extreme anti-gun viewpoint, PlayboyPenguin has QUIT his NRA membership because he felt the organization was becoming too ineffective. It also points how he is consistently contrarian, argumentative, and seeking controversy.

~ Blue Jays ~

Man BlueJay...you just can't be wholey honest about anything can you. I stated in another thread that I quit the NRA many year ago (as many gun owners did at the time do to some corruption and ineffectiveness issues). In the same sentence I stated that I wanted to rejoin but was wondering if anyone thought GOA was as good or better than the NRA. Either quote in entirety or save you breath. It just makes a person look ignorant and manipulative when they have to skew others statements or take partial quotes. Here is the entire statement you are refering to...

"I am an ex-NRA member who quit because I felt the group was becoming too polarized and inefective. I have heard from many that this has changed some in recent years. I am considering rejoining but want my money to go where it will do the most good and not go into the wrong pockets or go into the right pockets in the wrong manner. I have also considered joining the GOA. Any avice from anyone." :)

That doesn't sound anti-gun to me. Maybe you need to work on reading comprehension or are you intentionaly trying to be misleading?

There I was ... in Panama ...
in the club at Howard AFB ...
Anyway, I digress. It's funny, I just don't recall meeting any Army intel analysts -- in the field -- carrying M-9s -- during JUST CAUSE.
