Can you use large magnum primers for 45acp?

I do wish we had data on primer characteristics. I am unaware of any technical data showing differences between standard and magnum primers. Data such as primer pressure curve, the mean and standard deviations, peak energy, dwell, duration of burn, amount of mass ejected, etc, etc. I was told by a guy who visited one US Army Ammunition plant that the contractors have these instrumented "mules" which measure every characteristic of the primer lot under test. However, we don't get to see that.

All we know is what we have been told in for profit magazines, and what I have read, is magnum primers are supposed to have a longer burn. Maybe they do. But how much more than a standard primer, don't know that.
Primer test info was published in "ABCs of reloading" by Dean Grennel. Circa late 80s early 90s. It showed a few cases that it makes a difference.

.45 ACP is a low pressure round. Looking at my rather huge primer stash, it appears Winchester only makes one LPP, for both?

Nope, those were CCI. I guess Winchester only makes a one size fits all LPP.

That is correct Winchester produces a single LPP suitable for both regular and magnum duty . I've been using them since the 70's nearly exclusively and results are pretty consistent . I've never had one fail and that's more than I can say concerning cci .
Back in early 70's had #3 cci pistol primers fail out of a box . No idea as to why ,double struck NO ignition ,yet all the rest went bang .
Wasn't into saving bad rounds back then or discovering WHY they were bad ,so tossed em moved on .

What I find remarkable is shotgun primers in particular Win 209 , I've loaded well over 275K and NEVER had a misfire or failure .

I've had shot wad puffs ,dribble shot and such do to MY own stupidity but primer has always gone off . Reflecting back I've had exactly #5 primer failures #3 spp and #2 lrp and the latter may have been OLD improperly stored rifle primers . I used some lose components which I acquired through an abandoned storage garage auction ,so had zero knowledge of those components . Yet 98.5% of the remaining components worked just fine ; Including 10K once fired AA hulls and the Mec presses .
