can't mount big scopes on savage 17 hmr..

i tried mounting a bushnell 3-9x44mm on my 17 hmr and the bolt gets blocked.. i am using weaver style rings about 1".

anything i can modify so i can use bigger scopes? i'm still a noob with scopes and mounts. yes, i did a search here, but no luck..

Sounds like you're using medium rings. Try a pair of high rings, and if that doesn't work go to extra highs.

The high rings shouldn't affect accuracy. The big thing is making sure that the rings are bases and rings are installed properly. If you're uncertain on this check with your local gun store. Most local shops are helpful and will only charge a little to mount the scope in new rings and bore sight. Where I work we include that with scope purchases.

generally speaking, but not allways true, once a front bell gets over 42mm, you have to go to medium-high, or high mounts.

I have high mounts on my 10/22 and it didn't affect the accuracy a bit
