Man, I dropped this in the wrong forum and have no idea how to delete this. Ok, here's the deal. I am mounting a scope (actually re-mounting) for my boss to his .17 HMR Taurus pump. This whole mount system seems like an afterthought to the gun. Obviously, oops we made an open-sight rifle and now people want scopes. The mount attaches by removing the rear sight and inserting a specially made "nut" that only a single screw fits to. This locks the weaver rail down. He took it to a gunsmith here and the guy wouldn't even do the job, which I thought was rather snobby. Anyways, has anyone seen or run into this before? Is there a better option? Don't mind the CETME, not part of this. That's for later.

side mount available

I have a side mount on one of my 172 rifles. It attaches using the
take-down screw. Mine required a special longer screw. The mount
seems bulky and looks out of place on this slim little rifle.
Your scout mount is probably the best if a scope is needed.
There is a peep sight that mounts on the tang.

Thanks, Chestnut. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't some wonderful other option before I did all the work. I think you're right, it's the best option. His eyesight wouldn't work with the peep and he uses this thing for more than I thought possible (Mountain Lion @ 150 yards) so I'll make him happy and put his Leupold on. Thanks.
