Capacity or Reliability?

Oh yea X-Rap.

You practice a technique, a system, on the range. And then when the fur flies you have to adapt what you learned to the situation. The 'Weaver' or whatever stance won't be perfect. The two handed hold (or one handed) won't be perfect. The sight picture, if you can see the sights, won't be perfect.

But you adapt what you have learned and keep a-going.

And the more fights you have been in, the more you learn to adapt on the fly.

And that is why I do recommend competition. Be it karate tournaments, IPSC/IDPA, boxing, etc... even NRA slow fire. That way you have some pressure and if it's fast paced you learn to adapt quickly. No it ain't a gun fight, but it IS pressure you don't have on the range and you have to think on your feet while people watch.

I've seen many a person come to a IPSC or IDPA match the first time, have jitters, and fall apart (just as I did many a year ago.) And I've seen people at karate tournaments get the jitters and almost freeze up on the mat when the gong sounds (just as I did the first time.)

It helps.

Do note, those people I mentioned, Cirillo, Jordan, Bryce, Askins, and yes Cooper (Col. that is) were ALL competitors in shooting matches. Most were top competitors in their fields.

I carry either my Ruger SP101 .357mag Spurless 2.25in loaded with Speer GD .357mag 125gr (5 shot), or my SA XDS 9mm loaded with Speer GD 124gr +P (7 or 9 + 1), and am comfortable with either (one SS or SL or one mag extra). Both have been ultra reliable since day one. As far as reloading, I have practiced a lot with SS or SL with my Ruger, not quite as much with the XDS and mags. Either way, if the "gunfight" requires a reload, I hope to be behind cover when performing the reload, not in the middle of the street-meaning to ME that task's time requirement may be a moot issue. MY accuracy is the game decider, IMHO.
In other words, I would think any gunfight will be dynamic and fluid, not static like the range-get off the X.
