"Captain" Webb abandons his wounded

Bart Simpson actually said

"I didnt do it, nobody saw me do it, you cant prove anything!"

:D :D

I believe that it's important for me personally and for a lot of people in the situation that I am in -- to be able to defend myself and my family.

why he carries a concealed weapon. "Since 9/11, for people who are in government, I think in general there has been an agreement that it's more -- a more dangerous time," he said. "If you look at people in the executive branch . . . there is not that kind of protection available to people in the legislative branch. We are required to defend ourselves, and I choose to do so."

So I guess it's true , "royalty" deserves the right of self defense while the rest of us are s**t out of luck . This guy wouldn't even step up to bat for his aide that wa carrying HIS gun . What a maroon .

Would this make a good case for the 2a with Courts in DC? Doesn't criminality have to involve intent? I am very disappointed in Sen. Webb's response, it's hardly what one would expect from a Marine about one of his brothers. Shouldn't he have said hell yes that's my gun, I will exercise my 2a amendment rights and I will support everyone else to the same, stuff happens.

Except that he never says that. At all. He states why he, personally, has a carry permit.

That's all.

Did he place the gun in the hands of the aide and ask the aide to take the gun into the Capitol? Apparently not, given that he was out of town.

What is Webb's responsibility here?

If he were going to step in and go to bat for his friend, as we saw in the other thread, Webb would just be attacked (again) for this "royalty vs. plebs" stuff.

In Washington, DC??? :what:

Where ordinary people aren't even allowed to keep a rifle or shotgun in their home unless it's disassemble or secured with a trigger lock.

Where no one except perhaps someone high up in the government can even have a handgun, let alone carry one. :barf:

This man is scum...

Earlier story was that he gave it a low-level aide at the airport before going through security. That staffer gave it to his boss who put it in his briefcase and forgot about it.

So Webb is telling the truth but not the whole truth. Notice his very stilted, cautious choices of wording. If he were selling securities, it would be a federal offense.

Politicians just can't stop the urge to cover up, even when the whole truth wouldn't hurt. It must be genetic.

Gotta say I am more than a little disappointed here. I thought he was going to make a stand here not just use one of flunkies to grandstand a little. Guess he will be joining Allen on the unemployment line in six years.

In Washington, DC???
No, in Virginia. Where he lives. I've seen no statement from him that he carries in the DC limits. He may well do so, but he hasn't stated as much, and there's no reason to infer from this event or his statement that he does so.

What about the scenario you've described is a 'federal offense'?

A good point. I’ll add “weasel” (as in “weasel out”) to “scum.”

It’s interesting how these Democrats are hot to go for gun control, but always take care of themselves… :barf: :barf:

So you're complaining about his public statements (which supposedly show that the dastardly Dem is hiding something?), rather than anything that actually happened?

Argument by innuendo is weak - if you want to claim that he's purposely omitting damaging information, you should have some kind of facts to back that accusation up.

Better to remain silent...

Jim Webb (who, for the record, I don't particularly care for) has an A or A+ rating from the NRA, so far as I know.

Webb, an expert marksman, was happy to discuss why he carries a concealed weapon. "Since 9/11, for people who are in government, I think in general there has been an agreement that it's more -- a more dangerous time," he said. "If you look at people in the executive branch . . . there is not that kind of protection available to people in the legislative branch. We are required to defend ourselves, and I choose to do so."

Typical filthy politician. He is God and we are peons. Screw him and all the others. I don't care if he is "pro-gun". He is pro- "his life is more valuable than mine."

No he's not. He's stating a fact.

Remember anthrax? I didn't get any in the mail. Did you? No? Huh, maybe public figures (be they politicians or celebrities or athletes, or people with important roles in running the state, nuclear plants, so on) are simply higher-profile targets for terra-ists and criminals? Could that be possible? Nah, no way.

Amazing the way people will read their own biases into a simple statement.

Yes, but that comes with the job. They were not forced into it. They simply represent us since it is not feasible to have millions of people in a room debating an issue. They are not above us in any way shape or form. Their lives deserve nothing more than ours.

The dumping on Webb is bizarre given his long standing support for gun rights for everyone and for CCW in particular. The only logical inference to be made is that some Republicans are such rabid partisans that they have to label every Dem as elitist and Anti gun. These folks are focusing on one sentence to portray Webb as only caring for his right to carry when he makes clear, as he did during the campaign, that he supports the VA CCW law for everyone.

It reminds me of the anti-gunners always focusing on "a well regulated militia" while avoiding "the right of the people..."

I guess Webb's crime is not bowing before the great 2nd A god named Bush. Last time I checked Bush had said he would have signed the Clinton AWB extension if brought to his desk. Bush has never articulated an intellectual, emotional, social or cultural defense of gun rights; Webb has.

Nor did he suggest that his life was worth more than yours. He's stating why he has a carry permit in Virginia. Nothing more.

Nowhere does he say "BUT YOU CAN'T HAVE ONE."

Okay, I get that Sentators can carry kryptonite or whatever around the security monitors in the Capitol. Guns included. But not their lackeys or horse holders. Got it.

And I get that Webb has a Virginia CCW. Got it. Good on him.

But as far as I can detect, there is no "magic doorway" connecting the state of Virginia to the Capitol.

So when he CCWs his Virginia gun from Virginia to the Capitol grounds, isn't he in violation of DC law?

Or does he always have a lacky take that risk for him, and somebody botched the SOP this time?

A fellow who ended up with bullet in his brainpan a few years back remarked that politics in DC was genuine bloodsport. Nothing's changed, nor is it likely to. It's who gets eaten and who gets to eat.

Hopefully they will trace the gun's ownership back to the senator (or not as the case may be).

Until he got into a situation where his neck might get into a wringer. But then, when you're a senator, the hired help is easy to replace.

No, Bush is every bit as bad.
