"Captain" Webb abandons his wounded

"I'm not going to comment in any level in terms of how I provide for my own security," he said.

Have to give him that one. One of the smartest things I've ever heard a politician say.

Hope he will let the rest of us do the same.

Webb abandons his wounded?? I'm so glad the Bushies don't. And you have a good afternoon too Mr. Scooter Libby. See you in five to ten.

"Webb even hinted that he ignores the District law requiring handguns to be registered. Asked if he considered himself above D.C. law, he said: "I'm not going to comment in any level in terms of how I provide for my own security," he said." - from the linked Post article

Chuckle. There's a stand-up guy for you.

"The only logical inference to be made is that some Republicans are such rabid partisans that they have to label every Dem as elitist and Anti gun."
- from an earlier post in this thread

Did you just join up here to insult people, defend Sen. Webb, or both?

When did it somehow become unAmerican to rag on politicians?

John in Virginia

P.S. - And don't get me started quoting the Governor on how we can't tax and pave our way out of gridlock. He's just another budget-buster.

"Did you just join up here to insult people, defend Sen. Webb, or both?

Neither, rag on politicians all you want, it's still a free country. But I do think it is important to have pro-gun Dems like Webb, Tester and Schweitzer of Montana join with pro-gun Republicans and Libertarians to crush the anti-gunners. For what is worth the most pro-gun politician holding office today is neither a true Republican nor a Democrat but a Libertarian at heart: Congressman Ron Paul. (nominally a Republican)

Again insult all you want but statements that are 100% false such as Webb being anti-gun or a liberal merit a response if only for the sake of intellectual honesty and linguistic integrity.

I've even heard people refer to Ron Paul as a lefty because of his strong opposition to the Iraq war. If Ron Paul is a lefty we need a few more lefties like him.

Watch out, if you even intimate Webb is an elitist you'll have a half-dozen THR members on your case faster than you can say DINO!

:)

Congressional Logic

Can't believe you guys don't get it! O'kay...follow the Washington logic:

1) Guns kill

2) If guns kill, they must have a mind and a will of their own.

3) If guns have a mind and a will of the their own, this gun willed itself into the bag.

4) If the gun willed itself into the bag, only the gun is to blame.

5) Because guns are willfully evil, Congress must disarm Amerika.

The only remaining question is, for whom was it "gunnin'?"

:neener:

"linguistic integrity"

Is that like honesty or telling the truth or something? :)

I managed to earn an M.S. by the time I was 23, but still prefer simpler language.

John

"linguistic integrity", a few examples:

Rosie O'donell is NOT a thin, sexy, well-mannered, heterosexual, pro 2nd A activist, Britney Spears is not a great singer and competent mom, a .25 jennings pistol is not a powerful, reliable state of the art handgun, Anna Nicole Smith was not an intellectually gifted, flat chested, brilliant actress, Federal's 125 grain JHP in .357 is not a puny, ineffective, quiet round and finally Webb is not anti-gun nor a liberal.

The dumping on Webb is bizarre given his long standing support for gun rights for everyone and for CCW in particular.

What, exactly, has he done to show his "long standing support for gun rights for everyone?" Seems like before the campaign, he was rather unknown on that subject. He held no office, had no voting record, and I don't recall one of his op-ed pieces dealing with the issue.

Leaving your friends and employees out to dry because it's politically expedient doesn't instill great confidence in my heart that this man is in any way capable of true leadership. This is the first I've heard of him, and I'm not impressed. He sounds blustery.

So when he CCWs his Virginia gun from Virginia to the Capitol grounds, isn't he in violation of DC law?

Or does he always have a lacky take that risk for him, and somebody botched the SOP this time?

I think you answered your own question.

Read his books, particularly the last one where gun rights are defended from a social, cultural, historic and political perspective particularly when it comes to his people, the Scots-Irish and their contribution to the history of this country. And no this does not imply that only Scots-Irish have the right to own guns.:)

Used to be known as correct/incorrect. Now we have cute phrases like intellectual honesty, linguistic integrity.......

BTW, I suspect Anna Nicole was smarter than she let on, and I like more grains in a meal of .357 than 125. :)

So, his books constitute his long-standing support for the Second Amendment? While this might demonstrate a desire to meet his target audience, it doesn't indicate what he does or does not support when his new career is at issue. There is a long history of politicians asserting all sorts of things in their early years, only to "revise" their views it becomes a matter of voting their career, rather than their conscience. In that area, Webb has only begun to be tested.

Come on guys. Weaseling out of things is an important skill to learn. It's one of the things that separates us from the animals............................................except the weasel.

well, if anything it put webb's views in the spotlight. at least he's on record as supporting CCW. Even hints at ignoring DC law. lol.

i don't know mr. webb, but would it be unfair to give him the benefit of the doubt for the time being? after all, this IS a criminal case and it would be wise for all parties to shut up, politics aside.

this IS Mr. Webb's gun ... he could theoretically have some legal exposure on a number of levels (he in effect transferred his gun to another individual, even if he is permitted to bring a gun into Congress, it wasn't registered with D.C. police, etc) and if he has to give up his senate seat for whatever reason and be replaced by another anti dem, that would NOT be good.

flame away.

He's said he has never carried in the Capitol, so if you believe that, maybe he's never brought the gun to DC. I'm sure other Congresspeople do or else they wouldn't be talking about this so much.

Is DC handgun possession a felony? They're not allowed to be detained while going to and from the Capitol except for treason, felony, etc. This is all in another thread.

Da.... Wasn't he the one who set up a news conference? :uhoh:

He did pick the subject didn't he? :scrutiny:

I think I Washington they call this sort of thing, "damage control."

30 cal slob, I've wondered the same thing... I doubt it, but it's an interesting idea.

Leaving your friends and employees out to dry because it's politically expedient doesn't instill great confidence in my heart that this man is in any way capable of true leadership. This is the first I've heard of him, and I'm not impressed. He sounds blustery.

Oh, come on... if he tried to help or defend this guy, you'd be criticizing him for attempting to subvert an investigation and being above the law.

Face it... people here are being critical because of his party registration, and nothing more.
