On the CZ model of handguns that have a decocker, when the gun is loaded and a round chambered and it is depressed (the decocking lever) the hammer falls to a "half cocked" position. Is this the proper position for the hammer to be in while carrying (CCW)???

Yep! The trigger block will prevent the hammer from accidently falling and discharging a round.

With your CZ on "half cock" it makes the initial double action trigger pull a little easier as well.

Well Walt I recently switched from a 1911 style gun to a PCR for my daily carry. I have no problem carrying a 1911 cocked and locked, just don't feel as comfortable with the CZ that way. Maybe it's the absence of the grip safety, which is why I went to the PCR with the decocker. Just wanted to make sure the hammer was "safe" in the half cocked position.

Every once in a great while, when trying to draw and shoot a 1911 rapidly, I'll get a less than optimal grip and won't depress the grip safety quite as well as I should. The gun won't fire until I adjust my grip. (Perhaps I should practice more with that gun.) Its a very rare thing, and only happens when I'm really pushing it.

That, to me, is just as much as "safety" issue as being concernd about carrying a gun cocked and locked without a grip safety....

(I'm not saying that grip safeties on 1911s are bad, not safe, etc., only that most designs have their strengths and weaknesses, and something that isn't a "weakness" for one shooter might be, for another.)

I agree. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't compromising safety at the "half cock" position on the CZ.
