what disadvantage do you see not being able to lower the hammer to the full down postition..
seems like it would be minutely easier to pull a DA shot from the halfcock position since the hammer doesn't need to pull the full distance..
just curious
I like guns to be more distinctively "safe" or "unsafe". We all generally agree that, a cocked and UNlocked 1911 is unsafe, a safety is needed to carry a cocked single action. But a DA revolvers and DA pistols are safe, that the long and heavy trigger is safe enough that no manual safety is needed. This is the premises that DAO(which has to be DA first, to become DA only) has no safeties nor decockers...
I've compared the trigger pull weight and travel from articles on the net. SA guns(whether they are SA, or DA in SA mode) usually have trigger weight around 3 to 4 pounds or less, and travel of a quarter inch or less. DA revolver and pistol, shooting in DA mode, mostly have trigger that weighs 9 to 10 pounds or more, and travels at least half an inch, rest to fire...
So if 10-lb and half inch are safe, will we accept 8-lb and 0.4 inch? Then how about 5 to 6 lbs(Glock has trigger weight about 5.5-lb) and 0.3 inch(Smith's new M&P has a 0.3 inch trigger travel)? Soon enough I'd like to say, give me a manual safety before I feel safe carrying it. Because a cocked and unlocked 1911 is just like a Glock, it will not fire until the trigger is pulled. What makes it unsafe is the short and light trigger. CZ makes their decock only guns easier to shoot by making them half cocked, so the weight and travel is cut in half(assuming). If that's safe enough, how about making it 3/4 cocked? I don't like the trend of modern "DAO" pistols that shifts the point of trigger weight and travel along the spectrum toward lighter and shorter, yet still claim to be DAO and safe without manual safety. The point of having a lousy crappy heavy and long trigger, is to save myself from having to deal with a manual safety. There's a price for everything. We can't eat the cake and say we still have it, can we?...
