First time I go into any establishment I look for the "No gun" sign. If the sign is there I find another store that sells what I want. Only seems right to me; if they believe what I believe I'll give em my money. If they don't I'll give my money to someone who does.

The fundamental issue here is clear. Does anyone have the right to deny you the ability to defend yourself? Can anyone, just because they have a preference, make a rule that is contrary to your own God given right of self preservation?

It is immaterial whether it is a governmental agency, your state, county, village or town. Does it matter who is deciding THEY have the right to infringe YOUR rights? Not in my opinion. They can state their preference, just like they can harp at me about wearing a seatbelt. They can pass all the laws they want. Their rules and their laws DO NOT negate my rights.

The fundamental issue seems to me to be property rights and public laws passed in a procedural proper manner.

California is very strong on property rights ... so am I.

OK, I admit it!

every time I see those tags on a mattress that says "do not remove" I tear them off!

but I have only seen one "no guns" sign, at harrahs casino.

treo and Zach S,

In your interchange, the problem with businesses posting signs comes where the states have not/will not differentiate the rights of a private property owner and a business owner.

A private property owner has the right to say who can and can not come on his property, what a person can or can not do on his property, or what a person can or can not bring onto his property. Private property is not open to the public.

On the other hand a business property owner does not/should not have the same rights as a private property owner. As long as all customers obey the safety and health regulations of the state, the only rules the owner should be able to impose is basicly on his staff. Business property is open to the public.

We have this situation here in Alabama. A business owner can place a sign stating no firearms and if you are caught carrying and are asked to leave and refuse, you will be arrested for trespass and you will lose you privilege to carry. The same applies if there is no sign and someone observes you carrying and the owner asks you to leave and you refuse.

I do not have a permit to carry not until 2011 when I am eligible.
But when I will carry I will avoid going to places that specifically prohibit me to carry I will go somewhere else especially if there is a screening security and searches.

I live in PA and do carry in bars and have been carrying to Church. None are posted and PA allows carrying around alcohol. There is a "No Weapons" sign at work so I don't carry there. The sign does make me feel safe /sarcasm.
