When I get my current project up and running, I imagine it's going to be on the very threshold of what I can hand as far as kick goes.

Seriously though... i read a few people ( i only read the first page) saying 3" mag shells.... cmon They arent bad at all.... just hold the gun in your shoulder..... my homosexual, feminine, friend of the family or whatever he is does not agree with me... but it was a BLAST watchin ghim shoot it

My "ouch" level is 10 rounds from my Rem 700 BDL in 300 RUM. Makes my aught six seem like a rimfire.

I'm still looking for volunteer's to shoot the 450 #2 nitro express so i can regulate this beast. i can't lift my left arm after i shoot it.
In my younger days when I would go shoot at paper to see if my '06 would still kill elk, dad would always make me take his old Model 70 375H&H complete with metal butt plate and all. I could only fire it three or four times. Just awful.

I've seen lots of posts about the .45-70. I have a Marlin 1895, but the very first thing I did was add a Decelerator pad before the first shot. It's really pretty decent even with handloads with 400 grain Speers.
Pretty bad was my friend's Ithica 37 Featherweight with regular 2 3/4" slugs. A few of those and he handed it to me. Four or five were plenty.
My other friend had an 870 3". Turkey loads and particularly 3" slugs were pretty brutal. Something to do with the synthetic stock. I shoot quite a few 3" from my 870 and it doesn't seem nearly as bad.
Worst kicking bar none was a sporter weight Ruger #1 .45-70 with super hopped up loads, right at the .458 Win Mag level. About the weight of a normal .22. Wow. IIRC, it had little or no recoil pad. One shot left me bruised from the top on my shoulder half way down my ribs for days.

100 light target 12 gauge rounds in very (very) quick succession out of a Mossberg 88 will do a number on you head. Shotgun whiplash like I've never felt.
I was shooting and reloading as fast as I could.
9x19mm Parabellum didn't hurt, but it did feel like I had no control over the round.
Of course, it was my first time shooting a pistol, after being a longtime rifle and shotgun freak, and the S&W Model 59 didn't fit my hand very well, anyway.

I'd love to know when you get that big old 20mm Lahti up and running. Do you live anywhere near Florida. Hell I'd drive a ways and pay you good money for a chance to shoot something like that.
Fine looking gun. Please keep us posted on your progress and by all means give us a range report with picture the first time you take her out for a test run.

I haven't shot ALL that many guns over the years and primarily try to make one ragged hole with .22 these days.
I have a Finnish Moisan that is quite uncomfortable to ME.
Way back I had a single barrel 12g and a buddy had reloading stuff. We loaded up a black powder shell with a pretty good amount of black powder. When I touched it off (oh, did I mention it was 18" and had a homemade pistol grip?) the break open lever broke open the skin between my thumb and first finger!
I still have the gun but it has a factory stock on it these days!
I have an 870 that I have fired once with #4 buck with the stock under my arm and holding on for dear life!
Same buddy as the black powder incident has a semi auto 30.06 that we both think kicks pretty good....
I can see right now that the .308 black rifle I plan to own SOME day will have to have a compensator on it!

I'll second that, great gun but it is a little monster to shoot more than a couple of times. I have one that was inherited from my great great uncle and it is the only gun that has ever made me want to stop shooting for the afternoon. That being said I really am not a recoil sensitive guy my favorite plinking rifle is a Mosin-Nagant 91/30 with a close second being a NEF 12 gauge with the barrel lopped back a few inches, it throws slugs like a dream.
