I have some 405g cast bullets For my marlin 45-70 cowboy from sns casting . I have a 100 or so loaded with mild loads ,then I found most of the lube was missing off the rest of them an laying in the bottom of the box.the lube pieces were real hard an brittle.l had dropped the box an maybe some ruff handling on delivering.

don,t know what to do with these 2 groove bullets.maybe clean the rest of these an put on some lube of some kind .don,t know much about cast bullets other than I get alittle leading in front of the chamber an a flyer now an then.i keep thinking about getting into casting bullets ,but I enjoy shooting much more than I would standing over my lead pot.no more than I shoot the 45-70 I guess just load the good old xtp 350 g an be done with it .save the cast for the boys to deal with someday.

You can doing a few things. One nothing at all like you mentioned. Or you can hand or pan lube them or you can try powder coating them.

In this situation many reloaders use a liquid tumble lube to salvage partially lubed bullets (liquid alox or 45-45-10). I have "dip lubed" some bullets with missing lube in 45-45-10. I just grab the bullet by the nose, dip in liquid and set on a piece of alum foil to dry. I don't like the "snotty" appearance of tumble lubed bullets so I dip lube :D (one major reason for missing lube is commercial casters use a pretty hard lube for shipping survival but many times the hard lube cracks and falls out of the groove)...

If you're thinking about getting into casting, look here for a bunch of info for beginning casters on just about every aspect of making your own bullets (lubing included!)... http://castboolits.gunloads.com/

Send/email a pic of the remaining bullets in the box to SNS Casting and see what they say...
You will probably be sent replacements no charge.
I'm sure SNS would rather do that than have you post about it on reloading forums :uhoh:
:D

Thanks guys! I don,t blame sns casting for the loss of some lube at all an think they make a fine quality bullet for the money .i seen how much damage is done on the boxes from the shipping, delivering on most bullets i receive.

You can use Lee Liquid Alox (aka Mule Snot)
or there's another much thinner solution called Rooster Lube.

If it were me?
I'd use Rooster Lube.
Alox smokes pretty bad when fired.

If you don't have a lube sizer then I would probably use Alox on them. According to Veral Smith of LBT molds, commercial cast bullets are lubed with crayon-hard lubes so they can withstand package handling and that if a bullet lube is hard as a crayon, then that's all it's good for :)

Lee Alox also comes in sticks for use in sizing/ lube presses. $$5.99 a stick on Amazon.

It’s soft enough you could refill the lube grooves by hand.

I'm a fan of the Shakey-Shakey method (Tumble Lube) using the Alox & Paste Wax.

Cheap, Easy & Fast.

I use the liquid lube a lot recently. The stick Alox when I feel like using the lube sizer.
Where does the paste wax come in.

I think that is what is called the 45-45-10 Mix.

45% Liquid Alox, 45% Johnson Paste Wax & 10% Lighter Fluid as a fast evaporating solvent.

Youtube is probably full of videos.

Scoop... Squirt... Squirt... and stir if you feel like it.

Dump some bullets in a container and swirl... shake... swirl... shake...

Set them out to dry.

Heck you can use plain old Johnson's paste wax as a lube, no need to get fancy making anything. I use jpw all the time on my paper patched bullets.
